    Goodday mate,
Is there are any special requirements for making safety signs in Australia? Like do we have to register with workplace health and safety department etc.

    Thanks in advance

I don’t think there are any requirements to register etc. There are standards for OH&S which I guess cover signage requirements.

I would speak to someone with OH&S experience and maybe your solicitor if your looking at doing this in a big way. If your only doing a few to sell then you can draft up a disclaimer saying the customer is responsible for meeting requirements etc and your supplying the sign as in.

There’s a similar disclaimer in those Safety Sign template CDs.

I’m not a solicitor or hold any other qualification(s) in this area. Just giving you my thoughts on how you may proceed.

    Cheers
    Jason

Heng, you’d best contact the wph&s dept here in Qld to get the best advice. They have requirements that must be met to be legal.

You’ll need to conform to the Standards Australia criteria too. To get the books you’ll need to buy them, they cost a fortune though.

For instance, I did a heap of ‘Danger – pool under construction’ signs. My text and layout was OK, but I was informed that I’d used red instead of Black – making them illegal. No one says the laws are clever. I mean, red or black… it says the same thing.

    Hi Jason and Shane

Thanks for letting me know. Just wanted to be sure in case I get a client who wants to do safety signs. Will definitely do more research into this before I do anything. Will try and see if I can get hold of some guide manuals.

    Cheers
