is there a laminate that will work with perforated material?
Hey,
We have a few jobs coming up requiring us to do some one way vision windows for the back of about 10 vehicles.
The dilemma I am having is finding a good material with a matching over laminate to last decently for 3 years. We are looking to get a 50 meter roll.
From our suppliers a 1-2 year is well under half the total cost of 4 year perforated with matching over laminate.
So the question I had was will a 1-2 year do the job? Or does any one know any suppliers in Oz selling a decent perforated material for fairly cost effective rates?
We are running A versacamm SP-540V.

I’m not sure I understand the question.
Are you asking if a 1-2 year vinyl will last for 3 years? If so, the answer is maybe it will, but don’t risk it.
Make the customer pay for the proper stuff. The alternative is that the vinyl may fail and he will expect it replaced for free, and rightly so.
Don’t expose yourself to that risk to save him a few bucks. Not worth it financially – and that’s quite apart from getting a reputation for shoddy work.

So if anyone here knows of a supplier supplying a good material at fairly good prices per roll with a matching over laminate would be greatly appreciated. My suppliers don’t specialize in this material and have told me they charge a premium because it is not their main focus.

unfortunately most of the perforated window films aren’t rated for 3 years even with the over laminate. As a matter of fact, the over laminates for these applications weren’t even made with the sole purpose of UV protection, the over laminates were to prevent dew and moisture from building up in the perforations thus preventing it from getting under the adhesive and lifting the graphics. Read carefully through the manufacturers specs for this material for solvent applications because the only stuff I have found that was 3 years was all screen print material. The window perf on our shop vehicles has been on for about 2.5 years now, minimal fade even for where these vehicles have been and the weather they have traveled through but, no warranty on them (not like it matters, we can just reprint them lol) but we wanted to leave it on as long as possible to see for ourselves how long it can last an still look presentable.

Another quick question. I’ve found that a supplier who supplies Mac Tac has a really good price on a roll for their 3 year see through material. However their matching over laminate is pretty expensive in comparison to the roll price.
I was wondering if I used this see through material with another high quality over laminate for perforated such as Avery’s DOL4000, could this be an option? Have other people tried this and how have they found this?

the problem with this is, most manufacturers wont warranty a product fully when not using the matching over laminate. I am sure it would work, but in the event of a failure, if mac-tac finds out you went with Avery’s overlam and not theirs, there is a good chance the claim will be denied.
