  • Help, long and thin graphic!

Posted by Chris Windebank on 20 September 2007 at 09:27

A client wants a tape or graphic totaling 100m by 35mm. He asked for a banner and me putting wording on it in vinyl. Is there a way to produce a paper or PVC graphic maybe 35mm x 4m and supply him 25 off these?
    Please, any ideas appreciated

It could very easily be digitally printed….the kind of job that would suit someone with banner off-cuts sitting doing nothing

Why not get a couple of rolls of packing tape printed up, would that not suit?

    right, found it !!

at sign uk there was a small stall with a ribbon printing system, very small and compact, basically i think it’s a modified label printer, but this can print any length of ribbon,

the ribbon is water resistant, and comes in sizes 25, 45, 70 and 100mm, there’s a few other sizes too,

it costs around £500, 45mm silk ribbon would be about £15 for a 50m spool, various colours available too.

no website, but the email address (a temp one according to the flyer) is (mod-edit) the phone number is 01823 663101, company name is Charmers.

the show price for the machine was 475, so you might be able to haggle if you say you saw it as sign uk !

other uses for the thing would be trade suppling balloon shops, florists, car sales, etc, i was quite tempted to get one. maybe someone on here bought one ?

Sounds like you need a company that produce tape similar to that used by the police for cordoning off incident areas.

Maybe somebody that does bunting for garage forecourts might be able to help as well.

Been looking at ribbon printers (google ) for a while – creative printers seem to have the cheapest model and they tell you to use coreldraw rather than other companies that want you to buy dedicated software.

looks like an interesting bit of kit, but as good as it looks, its probably best suited as an add on to an existing flower, gift or party shop, where there would be a demand for ribbon. Cant see it being a worthwhile addition to a "regular" sign shop, Just my opinion.
