hi folks ive got a dibond board to place under an existing roadside sign..its going on with tracks and clips …..not a great deal of experience of using tracks and clips i have to be honest .Iits only 8ftx2ft board so its not going to be heavy .Question ….would i get away with putting 3m double sided …or equal quality tape along the track or do i have to screw holes in the facing which i dont really want to do

    Regards Brian

Brian, where is it going? VHB tape if applied properly will do the job but if it is on the public highway it will need to be riveted as well I believe.
If you are floodcoating the whole panel you can drill and use countersunk rivets so when you cover there are no rivet heads showing.

I’ve done it with VHB before on smallish signs, like 4′ x 3′. If you are flooding the panel white then you could use some countersunk fixings but they’ll still show a little bit through the vinyl.

cheers andy .as i said im not flood coating just blue lettering on it .I might be lucky a lot of the lettering might hide the screws

Brian, I’d use d/s tape and rivets. (Like that job you helped me out on)

Whilst properly applied VHB tape WILL do the job, and the surface will be perfect – I’d only trust it at this size & location if you were doing three rails and it is a paint to paint application not raw metal and I’d certainly be using adhesion promoters to be VERY sure of the bond.

From a ‘normal’ viewing distance, 4 or 5 rivets through the front are barely noticeable and can be just an integral part of the sign.

    Belt ‘n’ braces…
