Flood coating perspex in black

Frustrating one this.

I have a 10mm piece of perspex (470mm x 160mm) that needs to be flood coated in black with silver text on the reverse of the perspex.

I have printed the design in one piece on the gerber.

Fitting it with no bubbles is fine but I’ve tried it wet, dry, text then black flood coat but I cannot get a good finish on it. It seems to be a pressure issue but I don’t have a roller. It’s pretty warm in the work shop.

Any tips on how I can sort this before it costs me money?….Please..

Kenny, you will quite often get a silvering type effect, but this will normally go after a day or two. is this what you are talking about?

Yeah that’s it Peter but it’s to go on display today so I don’t have time for the silvering to go away 🙁

Have you tried warming with a heat gun after?

Back spray it – works on every bit of reverse acrylic I do.

Apply your lettering then ‘dust’ in the background colour with a high solvent spray paint – wait 10 minutes & flood coat it DRY. Looks amazing with ultra crisp edges & uniform colour.

Just your local motor factors or even Halfords.

Watch though – not every type of paint works.

I’ve been using ‘hi-cote’ for black or white & normal halfords car paint for everything else.

i have to disagree…still find a small shadow around the lettering through time…due to shrinkage of the vinyl 😀

Never seen it on stuff I’ve done 😉 Nah, seriously, I’ve not noticed this ‘shrinkage’ before.

I’ve got a few reverse polycarbonate & reverse acrylic signs round the town that have been in the sun, wind & rain for 6yrs plus – and they still look perfect.

Are you also flood-coating with the same colour vinyl after spraying?
