  • how do i fit a large vinyl graphic to skyboard?

Posted by Tris Gee on 21 August 2007 at 16:17

    hello all

I am going to be fitting a 620mm x 2440mm length of vinyl onto sky board for a office sign tonight, this is the largest piece ive had to fit, does anyone have any suggestions or pointers to help me along the way, i dont want to end up scrapping it or having loads of bubbles or creases in it.

    many thanks

    Tris

    Hi Tris,

if your not confident yo could maybe think about doing it wet? If so I would take it of the backing on top of your sky board, give it a spray and then get another pair of hands to help flip it over. The easiest way if you dont want to risk losing it

Gavin… now running to hills as the ‘dry mob’ come out :lol1:

    lol… get running!!

so if i just give board or vinyl? a spray it will make it easier for me, i take it ill be able to play with the vinyl more if it wet

    cheers Gavin

is it a solid piece, or cut letters?

solid piece I would hinge in the middle.
letters, I would hinge at the bottom and cut into smaller lengths.
use a felt squeegee, and do it dry…

Wet gives a bit more time, but from the sounds of it you usually do it dry so I wouldn’t change, I would agree with Peter and stick to dry and use whichever method suits.

    Hi Peter

its mostly solid with company name and logo to be cut out. i did think about hinging it actually but unsure with the lettering being cut out. is it possible to lay it, then do the weeding or is that a silly idea?? 😳

You can weed after applying but normally only for very small text or intricate work. I would weed first apply tape and hinge from the centre, that way you will only be applying 1200mm each way, if you are unsure, maybe a second pair of hands would be usefull.

When flood coating, I like to roll the vinyl around an old core tube so it can be easily held in one hand and kept taught.

    Hi Alistair

And you can manage to do that on your own??
