versa camm usage
Thinking of purchasing a VP-300, and just wondering if I am going to have problems if it is not being used every day or every week.
I currently have a Gerber Edge & Edge 2 that don’t get used from 1 week to another, but I know when I switch it on and use it it will be fine. Do you reckon the VP-300 will get blocked up and cause me problems.
Also how do you find this machine for extra small text i.e 1.5mm high as my Edge does not like it.

Leave it plugged into the wall with the power on. It does a self cleaning every 12 hours.

We left our vp300 for 5 days no usage but power plugged in worked fine straight away when our computer eventually returned from its monthly holiday to a certain major global pc company (but that’s another story) vp self cleans itself very eirieee when it suddenly bursts into life can disturb your tea break. cheers Nick :poke:

I agree with the first reply i have a HP 8000s leave it plugged in always for the reasons you are afraid of

I have left my versa camm 300 unused for a month without any problems on start up.
I leave it plugged in all the time.
It fires itself up and does a clean if it gets too hot or is starting to dry up.
I do a little test print on start up and it never misses a beat.
Can’t ask for any more than that 😀

Just a note,
I presume the roland self cleans using ink, like the mimaki, if so then leaving it for long periods does have a cost, so better to print something as often as you can, even if only bumper stickers, this reduces the ammount of ink used for cleaning.Peter

We have recently purchased a VP-300 and we opted for the Roland over the Cadet for that reason. We were told that we will have less problems with the Eco Sol Max ink when left for over a week without use. We do give it a test run every week though. It works fine every time.

I have left mine for a month with no problems. Ours only gets used once or twice a week with no test prints necessary.

the rolands are much more economical on the standby ink usage than the jv3. the ink used by a versacam to do its maintenance is the equivelant to a print half the size of a postage stamp. It doesnt draw much ink through it just makes sure the pump lines are empty. so pro2/pro3 may use 3x this ink because of its configuration but we are still only talking about the same amount of ink used when doing a nozzle check.
i have known jv3s empty themselves when people have been away for a while. no printing and coming back to a full waste bottle.

I left my sp300v for 3 weeks, while on holiday with no problems. Just left it plugged in and turned on and in sleep mode.

if you are fortunate enough to have a 3 month holiday, why worry about a bit of ink?
thats how long it would take to empty the carts, on a 24hr cleaning cycle. minimum

Our sp300v was idle for 2 months and when we started printing we eventually ended up with a few problems, magenta was leaking and black was faint.
Roland instantly told us we needed a new head!!! @ 600 quid + the rest.
The response to the post `roland are trying to fleece me` proved invaluable, and we are following the advice given.Manual clean
Strong auto clean, with solvent purger’s
Maybe new pump?
Use the thing as much as possible
Get a renewed service contractIt also appears that roland are not trying to fleece me but simply have a higher mark-up than independant service engineers.

Not the cheapest for parts but great tech help. (ask for keith)They offer a servive contract @ 60 quid plus, but this includes allsorts not offered by roland.
