  • can i apply varnish/lacquer over some cast laminated vinyl?

quite simply – I need to apply a varnish or lacquer over some cast laminated vinyl but I am worried that it might not be compatible and will peel off or crack. I have to varnish areas of the sign adjacent to the vinyl areas and masking these off would prove to be too tricky so I need a varnish that will stick well to both the vinyl and the hand-painted areas (painted with acrylic emulsion). So – does any one know of a varnish that adheres to vinyl? I have read that some acrylic varnishes do —- any suggestions?

dont see why you need or would want to varnish the laminate?
just varnish the surrounding area, but apply several thin coats, and build up slowly

    THANKS FOR THAT, PETER.-

I do appreciate your taking the trouble.
Obviously I did not express myself well enough. I do need to varnish over the laminated vinyl because, as I said, masking off the many areas of vinyl would be impossibly labour intensive. It would be much easier if someone could recommend to me, as I requested, a type of varnish that can be applied over the entire artwork. So, do you know of a varnish or lacquer that adheres to laminated vinyl?

I would be leery of using Frog Juice because I have heard that it yellows.
You may want to locate some 1-Shot UV clear in a white-labelled can with a green stripe. It dries pretty fast so you have to be careful when rolling or painting it on. I know some people actually use it for wet lamination of printed vinyl.
