Hi, I currently run a t-shirt screen printing business that mainly caters for bands/artists. We do alot of merch orders and that is our market so to speak.

We have been asked on numerous occasions do we make stickers (bumper stickers as a promotional tool for the artists). I basically want some advice/help on how i would go about setting up sticker making.

I’m a little confused when it comes to vinyl cutters and printers…
where would i get a vinyl printer from and how much?
also would i require a vinyl cutter?

Any advice on the subject would be amazing
    Thanks in advance
    Lyndon

what sort of outlay are you looking to spend on a machine?
you will probably need something like a versacamm or an edge printer.

Well as I’m completely new to all this i don’t want to be spending thousands. Good second hand gear would probably suit me fine until i find my feet. Could probably spend up to £1,000.

Any links to printers/cutters/equipment would be great.

the only machine you might get for that is a second hand roland-pc60 or pc-600. they are expensive to run and parts for them are discontinued.
that said, i think you would struggle to get the pc600 at that price though…
next step is an gerber edge but i doubt you will get the print and cut for under £4k second hand…

We do bumper stickers for some customers (recently had a run of 10.000) but we do use a JV3 which is a long way off from your budget.

You’re best bet would probably to look at subbing out the work, as Rob says the only printers in your budget are expensive to run and repair.

Good luck with whatever you decide.

Ok, I don’t really know anything on this topic so…
What printer/cutter would you recommend for the job? Also a rough cost outline? i don’t think we would be producing a high volume of stickers for a while so the gear hasn’t got to be so industrail if you get me

Problem is to make decent bumper stickers you need to print onto vinyl which only (as far as I know) commercial printers will do.

Options are really either a print and cut option such as a versacamm or cadet which come in around around £9k or a seperate printer and cutter such as a JV3 and cutter for around the same money.

I did think of that as an option but ideally wanted to get a cutter/printer. After realising the cost i may go with that. Would i need a certain type of vinyl for this?

Sorry for being such a novice but I’m new to all this and I’m very grateful for the advice
