  • do i put Multiple colours of fabric vinyl on at once?

Hi, I need to ask another question again. I wish to make a shirt with different layers of textile vinyl and I was wondering what the process of putting all of the colours on was? Do you do one at a time? Or cut around all the backing plastic and place it all? I don’t know!

Oh and also, if you were putting something on the front and back, do you need to protect the first side that you do in any way? If so, how?

I’m sorry if these questions are really simple! Any advice would be appreciated.

Sorry don’t do "T" shirts so can’t be of much help but if you try doing a search on the boards you will probably find the question has been asked before.
Not sure how many layers you want to build up but I would have thought that if there were a few it would make it quite bulky, maybe printing would be a better option

What garment vinyl are you using, some are ok to layer others are not, like gold or certain ones like easycut etc.

You can do the colours one at a time and they can overlap/layer no probs.

Put the first colour on and press, maybe for slightly less time, remove backing put second colour on and cover any exposed already pressed vinyl with silicon paper or whatever you use, press again for full time. Remove backing.

This should work fine however i have noticed in the past that if some backing lies across the already pressed vinyl it can leave a mark. If this happens just cover entire design when finished and press again with protective paper for the full time.

Try on a scrap t-shirt first.

    Hope this helps

    Cheers

Thanks Lee, I haven’t ordered any of the vinyl yet in order to do this, and I wasn’t aware different vinyl would not work with this! Which vinyl do I need to get?

I called grafityp a while ago, about their different vinyls, but they just sent me a catalogue which I am still baffled about.

Will definately test on some scrap material before the actual ones, just for practise’s sake!

    Sorry, I’m new at this.

    Hi,

The process i use is the same as Lee’s unless the vinyls dont overlap then i would just trim them down and print all at once. I use xpres ultra cut or victorys opaque and they both work fine. The main reason i use these vinyls is that they have a sticky backing which is really usefull when layering.

Try http://www.xpres.co.uk and get superflex or http://www.targettransfers.co.uk and try premium.

Contact both and ask for samples, they should send a decent amount.

    Have another look. Page 12.

There is a textile vinyl specifically for multi-layering at the top of the page.
