    Hi all!
I found a printer for sale, Encad Novajet 50”. But i am wondering if this machine will be suitable for Lightboxes? and do you think it costs more to run than Inkjet or Solvent?

    Please help!
Well! Did anyone used this machine before for the purpose of signs (lightboxes?)??

Ok first off these printers are quite old now so finding spares if you need them might be a problem. They use Dye or Pigmented ink so you will need to print onto coated media which may not be available for what you want and is obviously more expensive than plain media.
The inks even pigmented will not last as long as eco solvent or full solvent inks and lastly it has a max resolution of 300 DPI which isn’t really very good these days and won’t be suitable for quite a lot of work.

martin said it all really and as solvent materials and ink prices are dropping due to the demand there is no contest.
they were very unreliable as well in my experience

Martin pretty well summed it all up. Although he didn’t mention how painful and messy it is hand priming and cleaning the print heads every couple of prints. I just sold my old Pro 50 (haven’t even switched it on since upgrading ages ago) and while it sure was a great learning experience I’m really glad to see it’s rear end leaving the shop 😀
