  Outside Wall sign

  Hiya

  I was wondering if someone could give me some advice. I am looking to produce some wall signs for the outside of someones shop. I have bought exactly the right colour gloss paint, but want to know what type an thickness of wood might get the best results. I need it to last 3-5 years.

  Your advice would be greatly received.

  I would suggest using a substrate like Alumalite (alucore) or Dibond.
  Either are ready to letter, off the shelf, and have a good exterior life as well as they are not too heavy.
  The initial cost is greater than wood, but there is absolutely no prep work involved other than peeling off the masking.

  If using wood, for a wall-mounted sign, I’d get three-eighths to ½ exterior plywood, sanded one side, prime with a good primer, sanded, and two coats of exterior oil-based enamel applied (I use 1-Shot Lettering enamel)
  Here you can get factory finished pre-primed MDO, when using MDO I only buy that type as the other kinds can delaminate.
  Do not use latex if you are planning to apply vinyl lettering.
