  • Font for race drivers name

Posted by Warren Beard on 16 July 2007 at 17:55

    Hi All

I know there are some guys on here who race so hopefully you can help me.

My customer who races cars wants his name to put on the top of his door. He told me there is a normal font most race drivers use but did not have anything to show me.

Do any of you out there know what font they use for their names on the doors of their cars?

    Thanks

    Warren

    Here it’s usually Brush Script….arrrghhh
    Look at Valentino from Signfonts.com
    http://www.artandsignstudio.com/fonts.html
It’s pretty cool and well worth the $$.
    Or Journeyman from Sign DNA

    Thanks Jill and Chris

I don’t really want to buy it right now as it is only for 3 words and I am doing it for free as a favor (trying to butter up the customer)

If anybody has the font I would really appreciate these words please pretty please. (ai file or EPS)

Thanks guys (hope I don’t sound too cheap :lol1: )

    cheers Warren

    You do sound cheap.
    (sorry)
Each font bought is an investment.
I do believe that Brush Script is free.

    PS
Learn early on that you don’t do things as favors hoping for bigger jobs later. Everyone always wants a hand-out it seems.
It devalues your work and allows people to take advantage.
And he’s not a customer till he’s actually BOUGHT something from you.
Make him pay for the font!
Unfortunately the race-type people are the ones wanting the most for nothing, and they can smell a newbie a mile away.
By next year he’ll more than likely have his own plotter anyway.
    End of sermon.

    Hi Jill

I have Brush Script and think that will be fine. I am doing his company vehicle at the moment and he asked me if I could do it for him, not for free but just asked if I was able, I am going to do it for free for him even if he offers to pay. I would not do it free for any other reason but he has a small fleet of vehicles and am trying to go the extra mile hoping he will think of me in the future.

and all it will cost is a small piece of black vinyl 200mm X 30mm

I think it is valuable added value and could go a long way for the matter of a few pence.

But thanks for the heads up.

    cheers

Warren. What class or formulae does your man race in? Most racers want to like the BTC boys and like to have their name on the rear window. Do a google image search for "British Touring Car (or Cars)" and have a shufty on there. I’m no expert on fonts, but it looks like like a plain no fuss bold font to me. If he just wants his name on the door or whatever, I’m sure it can be any font you like. The only stipulated font I recall is for race numbers…well it is in bike racing anyway….. 😕

    Hi Steve

    Thanks for the response

I’m not sure what class it is but it is an old car, looks like a big mini but isn’t a mini 😕

It is just for his name along the top of the door, I did it in Brush script and will see if he likes it.

    Thanks mate

Standard aerial bold is the norm mate.

There wont be any restrictions on size either, that is reserved for numbers.

The font on the back of BTC cars is Arial, nothing that exciting.

How do I know, this is our car…

I used to use Brush script a lot years ago but i used to tweek it

    what i did was
,create the message in black then tighten up spacing ladd thin outlines slowly making sure the insides of the letters look right when it looks nice and chunkie weld it
It can be made to look half decent ..if you realize how crap it is in the first place
As Jill says nice fonts ARE NOT DEAR if your selling good design ..if you just sell words dont bother make do

cost of a few nice fonts is so low
and with our exchange rates now ,now is the time

    now lets talk about Algerian..
