  • why do i keep getting inconsistant cutting pressure?

Hi everyone, our ct630 is having problems cutting. When we send a cut file from Flexisign to pcut the cutting pressure varies throughout the cut. In some letters it will cut right through the backing paper and on others will leave sections of letters uncut all together.

Blade is set correctly, we are cutting single fonts no chance of duplicates.
It seems to do this more often on long cuts ie. borders, arrows, any straight lines.

I noticed when searching the forums that some have had this machine for a couple of years. Just wondering what the magic touch is cause we are really regretting buying it in the first place. 🙄

    Hi,

I’m not familiar with this machine, but could it be the cutting strip? Have a look at it and see if it looks worn. Did you buy the machine new? If so I would contact your supplier.

check that the vinyl is dead flat across the strip, i’ve found with some films, particularly reflective, or tightly rolled films, that they can raise up as they go over the cutting strip, causing the knife to slice through,

if not cutting deep enough then t’s due to not enough pressure or blade sticking out, i don;t know your machine so you’ll need to rtm to see how to adjust pressure,

maybe too much pressure and depth, sort the depth out first, back the pressure down to about 80g and try from there, normals vinyls i use only have 90g (average) and reflectives maybe 150g and a deeper blade,

If set up correctly it should be impossible to cut right through the liner. You only need to expose enough blade to cut the vinyl. Do what Hugh says: drop the pressure and work your way up.

The blade could well be set up wrong, but there is something more serious to cause this kind of inconsistency. As Hugh sais the material needs to be lying flat, I would doubt that even a very badly worn cutting strip would be this bad but it would the first thing I would check

when i said about tightly rolled films, what i meant was, some films have a higher memory than others, so the film doesn’t always lay flat, especially if the film has been rolled loosely, and squashed into an oval shape.

    been there …..

Emma I would go back to square one and set everything up again, have a look through the old posts for pcuts and see if there is anything already posted that might help. A lot of people have had problems setting them up correctly but once that is done then they seem to operate OK.
Check that the rubbing strip is located in its grove properly over its full length, if its a new machine it won’t be worn but it may have popped out a bit at one end.
Reset the blade so only the very tip of the blade is showing from the bottom of the holder, the blade should only cut through the vinyl not the backing paper as well. Then you can adjust the height of the holder and set the correct cutting pressure.
Also make sure the top rollers are aligned over the bottom rollers when you load the vinyl and as Hugh has said make sure it is laying flat all the way along.

Thanks everyone for quick response. Your advice worked by backing off the blade just a fraction. The cutting strip is in excellent condition as machine is still new.

It doesnt help that the creation company we bought off in Western Australia has deregistered and shut up shop and has closed down email and web address. Two months after we made the purchase.

    NOT HAPPY JAN.

    Anyway thanks again for advice.
