  • how do i get a stained-glass effect onto windows?

    Mornin’ all!

I have to design a new sign. (Surprise surprise I hear you all sigh!)

The customer has a craft shop making goods using coloured glass & lead, finished results a bit like Tiffany designs.

I have in mind to print a design onto clear vinyl, lay that on edge-polished perspex then finish the design with leadwork (or the customer will!)

My query is, does anyone recall where to find the post made – I think – by Andy Gorman (sorry if I’m wrong here) when he made a stained glass window. I’ve just reviewed Robs ‘Subway’ demo, now looking for other ideas.

    Sorry to go on…

    Hi Cheryl

I remember your posts about the windows you did, they are lovely, but I was after ideas which are slightly less complicated. I am going near to where the customer is in a while, so shall pop in with some ideas for him, and perkaps ask him to design the sign himself. (-)

This is what he wants replaced…

thats nice and simple, and his windows would look lovely with the idea extending from the sign down onto them. maybe the lettering a simple font in single colour with the background in blocks of colours extending down onto the window

Thanks Andy, although that’s not the post I was thinking of-must have been one of the other regular posters on here. Maybe someone will remember it later…

Cheryl, that is kind of what I was thinking, have taken a proof down to them, they are going to come up with an idea themselves, which is always good! :lol1:

I have used with good results,http://www.onestroke.com/demo/pages/GalleryGlassPages/LiquidLeading.htmlthis kind of stuff with great results for a faux leading look.just had a look at our front glass, done probably 8 years ago now,and they still look good.they are exposed to direct UV.you take the bottle of viscus fluid and extrude lines in the diameter you require onto waxpaper.let harden for perscribed period.its then like a sticky putty, place it in position self tacking, and it will further harden to solid over time.
