can anyone tell me why plotter bangs against side of machine
Posted by Harry Cleary on 27 June 2007 at 10:36My cutter did something very odd this morning when I switched on, the head repeatably banged itself against the side of the machine before it went to its normal position, now when I send something to cut…it goes through all the cutting motions but the blade wont go down to the vinyl…..anybody any ideas?……sorry if this doesnt make sense but Im up the proverbial creek if I cant get it working.
Its a Pcut 630….about 2 yrs old. Ive reinstalled everything and no joy! I cant afford to mess with it….is it dead?Martin Pearson replied 18 years, 3 months ago 6 Members · 13 Replies -

Harry ……… check the carriage in case a screw has fallen out or become loose ……… could have happened as it hit the side.

doesnt seem to anything missing or loose Marcella, and the blade is springing up and down if I press it. What worries me is that it bangs against the side everytime I switch it on.

Harry, don’t know that much about plotters but it could be that it is looking for a sensor or limiter switch which is not working. Maybe trying to find a start position. Can you alter the settings so its head start position is to the left of the machine instead of the right?

has the belt slipped?????? When it’s bumped the side could it have slipped off the belt slightly and that’s causing it to do it again?
Or as Martin has suggested check and clean the sensors ……… a plotter won’t run if one of the sensors isn’t working.

Hi Harry
I’m not familiar with the PCut but it sounds like it has no idea where it is on the carriage.
I would check any optical sensors and any other sensors. Also it may have just had a mental and needs a factory reset, on many printers etc this is just a case of holding down 2 buttons and powering the unit on.
I see http://www.signwizard.co.uk sell the units maybe they can help you.
Sorry I can’t be of more help.
Tim.

Only thing I could find on the Creation site – mainly in Engrish..lol
6.18 Question: Why does the plotter is out of our control sometimes?
Answer: Maybe while transporting or using it, the signal line is improperly connected, open the machine properly plug all lines. If the problem still fails to be solved after the above operation, please contact local agent or maintenance center 。
Maybe worth unplugging and re plugging any connectors to double check them – maybe a poor connection.
Teaching you to suck eggs Harry but make sure the machine is isolated from the power……….I don’t want to be responsible for a fried Irish man…lol
Best of luck!!!.

Harry,
I once had the same thing with an Aristo.
In my case there was a little switch on the chassis of the cutter, which the carriage touched when it got to the end of it’s travel, so that it knew that that was as far as it could go.
The little pin on that switch was stuck in, so the carriage kept trying to go further andbanging itself on the stop.
A flick of the switch pin cured it.
