    Hi guys

Im seriously looking at getting a printer, versacamm/Cadet 54", but stuck in the decision over whether to get new and drip it up or second user and pay cash if possible (cashing some policies in if i can get enough).

Are second hand versacamm/cadets any good, do they last? am i gonna have to spend loads on a service contract, print heads etc, not sure where the printer is gonna come from yet, have a guy that has contacts looking at some but not sure on the sources so cant tell what they are like

good deal from Print max from sign show giving lots of extras, comp, rip material etc until the end of the month, so want to make a decision quickly and decisions like this scared the pants off me and would like some advice or something just to make it a bit easier, i always feel sick spending money and my wife calls me rotten for it, but i know its got to be done this time.

Chris thats a hard call, if you can afford it comfortably buy new with either a bank/ personal / business loan or lease etc. there is some cheap money out there at the moment, do your research. if you go second user buy from a reputable re-seller, some one you have heard of or been recommended to. good luck

print heads is the main thing, see the test nozzle print on a machine before you buy it or even before it gets delivered. Look for alignment of nozzles and check all lines.
RIP is another thing, profiles for it etc… beware of the machine if it has unusual pipes coming out of the back into a tank and where the cartridges should be… just be cautious.

    Chris
if you are just getting in to digital, try to buy new for the reasons of initial set up, on going back up & maintenance. It will help you learn a lot with a back up on call in the first year if things go wrong, the second year you may feel confident to go without the back up. Choose your dealer carefully for the fore mentioned reasons comments have been made about dealers in earlier posts concerning back up & service and some where references to Printmax. On the other hand 2nd hand machines can be a good buy if you can understand them, i myself purchased a secondhand Soljet 2 & after a little work i now have a very good printer. Best of luck with your entry into the world of digital.

Go for new if you can possibly stretch to it Chris.

Chris, thats a really tough call, I don’t own a printer so couldn’t really comment on what would be best but if you buy or lease new at least you will have some come back if there are problems down the road, cash in your savings and would you have the money for repairs if they were required at some stage? If you cash in any policy’s before they are due to mature it could cost you a lot more money than leaving them to mature and borrowing money to either buy or lease, you may even be able to use them as a security against borrowing which might work out cheaper.

Chris, I would seriously think about speaking to your accountant or an independent financial adviser before you make the final decision, good luck with whatever you decide anyway
