  • Anyone advise how to preview EPS & AI files?

Posted by Craig Smith on 19 April 2007 at 21:32

I would like to print out a contact type sheet for the thousands of EPS & AI files i have stored, rather than going through them one by one.
Let me explain, someone wants an image of a VW T% LWB, i have 86 vw vans labelled VOLK0001 > VOLK0086. The one i need is in there somewhere but i have to physically open 86 images potentially to find the one i am after!! Needless to say it gets worse with Ford!!
I am sure someone must know, i have tried Photoshop > automate contact sheet but it pops up an error saying all the files in the folder cannot be opened by photoshop and then command because command not available!?????!

Sorry if this is a bit confusing, but my head is erm, confused!?!?!

There are around 500-1000 outlines so i dont want to print them all singularly!!

    Thanks

    Craig

if its the impact vehicle outline cd it will come with a built in viewer as well as a booklet to browse.

i would imagine any other make of outline software will too.

most reputable outline discs have a pdf menu that you can print off, have you looked on the disc directory?

Yes, looked at it in depth, i am afraid i’m guilt of ebay for this, so maybe that is the reason for no content pdf / booklet! Still, it Cost £50!! So do you suggest i pay the typical £100 from a reputable supplier?

Thanks for the quick response – Your stars!

PS – Rob, i watched your truck wrap in the pouring rain !! What a brave (read v. experienced) artist you are! 😮

Is that to read illegal copy then?
Then you ask here for advice?

No, i don’t believe its illegal. £50, it shouldn’t bloody be!!
It looks original, in its proper case etc…..I might ask for a refund now – You got me worried.

    I thought i’d save myself £50……..looks like it’ll cost me an extra £50. Plus i paid £5 for postage 🙁 [/quote]

    Derek, we all make mistakes,
I admire those who admit it,

I think you may have jumped the gun with your comments, (done it myself)

regardless to where you have bought it, at £50 i would think it to be a genuine copy, but minus the booklet. i would think if it doesn’t have some sort of browser or pdf like peter says its an old version of the software.
sorry, i know its not much help.

check the uksg members section, the impact software is available from Brian in there and comes with uksg discounts too…
you will get the full thing, browser, hand booklet 2 cd’s i think… all up to date and a years worth of free upgrades as and when new vehicles become available.

Is there a name on the disk to suggest where it came from? or a version?

No, there is nothing to say the manufacturer.

Just says Vehicle Outlines 2006-2007 (.AI & .PLT FILES).

Ill try that last link and let you know.

    Cheers

The file names you have listed are the exact way we name our files. We are the only people that provide a disk with Ai & PLT files. You have a copy of an old disk, originally there would have been 2 disks. The other would have had EPS, PLT files. If it the disk doesn’t have our name it’s clearly a copy. I would suggest you contact whoever you bought it from & ask for your money back. If you paid £50 for it you have not only been ripped off, you have also bought an out of date disk. We haven’t used cd’s for a year, they are on DVD now. Would be VERY interested in whom you bought it from.

And just as an aside, I have only once every seen an outline disk that wasn’t an illegal copy on ebay. And that was one of our customers selling their old one as they had bough a new one.

Oh t*ss. That’ll teach me not to ask first, but it was 6+ months ago i bought it – Ill have a look through the history to see if the guy is still selling them, but i know it was an auction and i ended up winning as everybody was sniping at the end and it jumped up huge amounts, so i wasn’t the only village idiot on that day.
Aside, ill order a copy from yourselves – but do your disks incl full scale, as this one does not – its only 1:20??

Thanks for your help, and the advice as to what not to buy from where!!!

    😳

Brians disc contain full scale eps as well as cdl files, the AI, I believe have to be scaled, as adobe has a max page size.

Thanks for the advice, now attempting to get some previewing software and test it – working my way through all the suggestions as i type. 😀

I know this post is a little old now, but with regard to previewing .eps files, the best program I have found is called Portfolio by a company called Extensis. There are still some .eps files it won’t thumbnail, but most work really well. Its quite handy if, like me you have a folder full of files from Brands of the World with numbers for file names.
