  • can anyone help with jv3 shearing problem please?

we recently replaced all the print head for the JV3. Print great for a week until yesterday. we left the whole print job printing overnight and in the morning we found 3/4 of the print were no good because it shears 2" from it’s original position. extremely strange. here’s what we know:

    1. both the feeding and pick up roll is tighten
    2. had rebooted both the printer and the rip (productionhouse 6.5)
    3. had dump/clear the data
    4. had reseat the firewire cable

could anyone help me diagnosed this problem? your help is greatly appreciated. thanks in advance.

    Andrew,
post a picture mate will be easier than trying to explain, does it do it all the time when you print. Sounds like either you left something loose or maybe the encoder or encoder strip is dirty or faulty. Not worked on a JV3 but dirty encoder strip can tell the computer that the heads are in a different place to what they are.

shearing… u mean print is going all over the place….
post a pic if you can.. or send one to admin@uksignboards.com if you cant.

I have JV3, also done a head change… did you do this head yourself and align it afterwards?

    kevin,

you’re a godsend. bang on on the encoder strip. we cleaned it with alcohol and it works like a charm now. thanks for the excellent tip.

I’m having a slightly similar problem with mine but not as extreme- I want to clean the encoder strip – is this the clear plastic looking piece that runs the length of the printer? Do I just wipe it down with swabs and alcohol?

i wouldn’t clean it with anything more aggressive than tap water!

just to be safe. it looks clear, but it definately isnt.

    it is also very fragile.

    just be careful.
