  • Red Sail and Illustrator CS2 or CorelDRAW problem…

Posted by qnerve on 3 March 2007 at 20:06

Hey everyone, first thank ya’ll for having me here.

I just recently bought a redsail cutter 24inch. I had the impression that I could make it work through Illustrator CS2. Does anyone know if it only functions with CorelDraw?

and if it works with Illustrator CS2, is it correct that I press "print" to cut with the plotter? Because it’s not working for me that way.

I’ve read through the boards and do have a good understanding of software and computers.

So if anyone with experience of a redsail cutter or Illustrator CS2 can help me, I would really appreciate it.

    Thanks.

Here’s the complete process I go through for setting the plotter from installation to Illustrator print…

I install the redsail software exe.
put it in HPGL mode and install (yes, I’ve rebooted here too)

    Turn the plotter on.
Put it "Online" with green light.
    and securely connect all cables.
    Put dongle in usb.
    done
    ——————————————————–
Ok, under properties under ports I have it on Port COM1.
    Under configure port I have
    9600 bits per second
    8 data bits
    None Parity
    1 Stop bits
Xon/Xoff Flow Control (I’ve changed this to "none" too
    and still no go.)

Under the advanced tab in properties I have:
    Always available ticked,
    priority 1
    Driver REDSAIL CUTTER PLOTTER(HPGL)
    Print directly to printer ticked,

Under Device Settings tab in properties I have:
    Roll Feed : 1100 X 1200 mm standard
    Knife offset: 0.30mm
Commands: HPGL >>>>>>>>>>>>>(I’ve tried DMPL and then makes the plotter
    react with awkward movements)
    ClosePatch(40/1mm): 80/40mm
    ScaleX: 1.000000 : 1
    ScaleY: 1.000000 : 1

Under Printing Preferences > Advance I have:
    Paper size: Letter
    Print Quality : LOW
    Scaling : 100%
Fill true type: NO >>>>>>>>> Under General tab, I press "print test page"
info is sent to plotter, Icon appears bottom right
    but the plotter sits motionless.
    —————————————————-
Under illustrator CS2 I do this

to prepare a text letter to be cut I type an "r"
and enlarge it to paper size.

    Remove fill.
    Keep outline on.
    Go to file.
    Print.

    Illustrator sends information to cutter.

The printer Icon appears on bottom right.

But the RedSail cutter/plotter stands still and motionless.

    ???

Hi, I have a Redsail cutter "30 wich works like a dream with WinPCSIGN software. First I design the image in Illustrator & then import it to WinPCSign & cut from there.
Where did you buy the cutter ?
I bought mine from Ebay http://stores.ebay.com/VIP-Studio-Super-Store-WinPCSIGN with the software.

The dongle works only for WinPCsign, did you get that also?

Hi Erla and thanks for your reply..

I grabbed my plotter from ebay as well, here’s the link
    http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi … :IT&ih=019

In the description I got the impression that I could use it with any vector based software, but I’m not sure anymore, lol. I’ve tried so many, like signgo, signcut X2 (or somethinglike that) illustrator, Macromedia free hand. Maybe the dongle works for CorelDRAW on mine, because it emphasizes that software.

yes it came with a dongle too.

    I didn’t get WinPCsign though. 🙁

Anyway , any input would be appreciated.
    Thank you.

Sorry, I dont know how to help you on this one. Have you tried to talk to the sellers, there are happy customers who got everything working.

Yes, I tried talking with them, and they were/are very curtiouse when they speak/type, but they never follow through. So, we are going through a claim via paypal, meanwhile I’m trying to get this to work, may be I can cancel the claim.

    Thanks.
