Pub Sign Supplier?
Posted by DeCal on 3 March 2007 at 12:20Hey Guys,
We have a client that requires a new sign for the front of the pub. Would anyone be able to point me in the direction of where I’d source a pre cut fancy shaped board?
Thanks in advance.

Get a 4×8 sheet of factory-finished MDO board (here we have a brand called SignWhite) comes in either ½" or ¾" thickness.
Find a panel shape you like, almost any clip art disc has one, or you can buy a shape directly from the vector art portion of the Roland DGA site very cheaply.Size it up to the required size of your sign, and cut it out of vinyl mask. Apply it to the MDO board and cut it out with a jigsaw. The mask prevents the board from getting scratched.
Then peel off the mask, sand the edges, seal them with a few coats of Elmer’s TiteBond exterior wood glue (or similar) and leave dry. Then lightly scuff the surface of the MDO with a ScotchBrite pad and paint with 1-Shot lettering enamel in your chosen background color. (I use a foam roller with very little nap, and you can even do a cool gradient fade with a roller) Leave dry a days then flip and paint the other side. (I use a stack of three Dixie paper bathroom cups under each corner of the sign to prop it, so it’s not laying face-down on a table while painting)
Let dry 1 more day and apply some good-looking vinyl graphics.I know it sounds time-consuming, but it’s not that tricky, and probably is cheaper than buying a blank. And it is a handy skill to have, because you can customize the shape to any that you like, or fit a special size that is impossible to buy off the shelf.

Jill, I tried making a sign board using your method described above and it was quite expensive to do. The cost of the board, roller, one shot etc was OK but importing 12 Dixie Paper Bathroom Cups from America was really expensive :lol1:
These people do shaped fibreglass sign panels in a range of different sizes and shapes.
