    Hello everyone,

I’m a bit of a newcomer to signs ete. I have recently seen some house signs made of glass that are written using cut vinyl. I was wondering:

a: where can I get the blank glass signs?
b: where can I get the fittings (are they called pillars)?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Any glazier will cut and polish glass to size for you. As for fixings

If their house number glass signs then then probably perspex maybe more suitable, as glass should be supplied toughened if possible, for strength & safety reasons if being sold on to customers – Glass can be bought toughened, polished edges & drilled 250mm square up to 3000mm x 1500mm from a number of companies – but sizes smaller than 250mm square will generally be supplied as non toughened as not many companies toughen small glass this size.

Glaziers will supply laminated glass in small sizes …………. very cheaply too. This is perfectly safe and will not shatter like toughened glass. I was quoted approx £3.70 for 300 x 150mm panels. As the process is different the glazier does not need to send it out to be toughened……….. 🙂

Windscreens are laminated as opposed to toughened for the very reason that it’s safer because it doesn’t shatter.

Can pre cut laminated glass be polished & drilled though? – laminated glass is fine if being framed all round – but what if Danny is using glass as signage and wants to wall fix through glass panels? – Edgework of glass will also want a finished look polishing & bevelling maybe. 😀

Phillip, the laminated glass was 5mm (possibly 6mm) thick, yes the sample I had was polished all round and the glazier predrilled it. It was used with stainless steel fixings and spacers.
