Why did you buy vinyl without the appropriate profile for your RIP?

    That’s your problem.

I HAD A PROBLEM WITH SOME BIKE DECALS ON PLASTIC TANKS, WHERE THE PETROL FUMES WERE REACTING WITH THE MATERIAL AND MAKING IT BUBBLE UP. AFTER TRYING 3M, ARLON AND MANY OTHER MANUFACTURES,I FOUND THAT CONVEX HIGH BOND MATT WHITE WAS BEST FOR THESE DECALS. I FOUND A PROFILE WHICH WAS PRETTY GOOD SO WENT AHEAD AND PURCHASED THE ROLL OF VINYL AND LAMINATE. WENT OK UNTIL I HAD TO PRINT GREEN, I JUST CAN’T GET A BRIGHT GREEN NO MATTER WHAT I TRY.

You could try going back to Convex to see if they have a profile for your RIP/printer.

    LEE<
PLASTIC GAS TANKS ALLOW FUMES TO PASS THROUGH, WHICH CHEMICALLY REACT WITH THE ADHESIVE ON THE VINYL. YOU MAY NEED TO CUT SLITS INTO THE DECALS TO ALLOW THE PLASTIC TANK TO BREATH/FUMES TO ESCAPE. THIS STILL MAY NOT STOP THE BUBBLING EFFECT THE FUMES WILL PRODUCE THOUGH! WHAT YOU NEED TO DO IS FULLY CLEAN THE AREA WHERE THE GRAPHIC IS BEING APPLIED AND SEAL THE TANK WITH A CLEAR COAT, WE RECOMMEND LEAVING THIS FOR AROUND 3 DAYS. SHOULD CURE MOST PROBLEMS. THIS IS WHAT WE TELL ALL OUR CUSTOMERS, JUST DOWN TO EXPERIENCE!

Lee, were just about to order some convex, never tried it before, is it very comfortable to use? and it is a nice thickness with the laminate?

I APPLIED THE DECALS IN A COLD GARAGE AND DID NOT EVEN HAVE TO USE A HEAT GUN. HAVE TESTED ON PLASTIC TANKS WITH 6MIL AND 12MIL LAMINATE FOUND BOTH GREAT .THE ONLY THING IS WITH THE 12MIL YOU HAVE TO CUT AROUND THEM TWICE WITH TWO CONTOUR CUTS WITH THE VERSACAMM, SO I HAVE WENT WITH THE 6MIL AND FOUND IT GREAT, APART FROM THIS PROBLEM WITH THE PROFILE, WHICH I STILL HOPE SOMEONE CAN HELP ME WITH

In terms of cutting twice for the 12mil have you adjusted your blade depth correctly? Seems like cutting twice and it being fine for the 6 that you havent adjusted the blade for the thicker laminate.

CUTTING IS NOT A PROBLEM YOU COULD GET THROUGH THE 12MIL WITH A 60 DEGREE BLADE BUT DID NOT FIND IT NECESSARY. ALL I NEED TO KNOW IS THERE ANY VERSACAMM PROFILE FOR CONVEX MATERIAL, WHICH WILL PRINT BRIGHT COLOURS.

Greens and orange on the versacamm are very hard to get, it’s to do with the 4 colours or something, someone on this group said they got better results with colours printing directly from Corel though, but that doesn’t help with print laminate and cut.

    Steve,

I disagree. I have no problem printing green and orange on my Cadet both with the activasol ink and now the Ecosol Max inks I have moved to.

I recently produced a couple of prints for a regular customer with orange in their logo and was able to be pretty close to the pantone colour. I also did a light box for an Indian takeaway last week with a vivid green printed onto translucent vinyl.

I still think the problem lies in the profile.

I can get greens and oranges Peter but the really bright vivid ones are hard to get, I’m using the uniform profiles on uniform media with uniform inks.

Kawasaki green is hard to get as well as ktm orange and the orange on Repsol stickers, however I can get a lot of the pantone colours.
Indeed they are very close just using Corels pantone pallet and export as eps.

I think these vivid colours have something else in there to enhance the colour similar to day-glow colours

Yes I already have these Chris.

My initial post was to point out to Lee that some colours are very hard to get, some are impossible.

Motorcycle graphics quite often use very bright colours which I’m sure have some sort of enhancement to the brightness, this makes it hard to match with a CMYK printer.

Indeed I think it was Shane Drew who recently had his printer converted to use orange and green inks to get round this problem.
