how do i save an illustrator file into a hpgl file please?
hi guys.
i use adobe illustrator cs2 to create shapes for my pacer.
my problem is that i need to create some curves for a job but when saving to a dxf file it has to many vector points.and the curve it cuts is not smooth.
i have downloaded a demo of signlab and saved the Ai file as a hpgl file, and this cleans all the vector points up . i wont be doing lots of these so didnt want to buy such an expensive piece of softwareis there a free piece of software that can save a Ai to hpgl.
or could somebody do this for me . for a fee

but it involves about 10 files .upto now. and will be more
and i really wanted to have a piece of software myself. trial and error thing
untill you see it on the cnc you dont know if its right.

Goto http://www.aidsoftware.co.uk and contact Jim there, the software there is not free but I know Jim also runs a Pacer and can give you ‘chapter and verse’ regarding getting your files to run properly.

Hi Neill,
I can understand your need to be practical about your expenditures, and I appreciate your frankness. For future reference, I will add the following comments that will perhaps help you to understand the SignLab product lines.
For the work that you describe, you would need either the EngraveLab or ProfileLab product lines (which are industry-specific versions of SignLab). EngraveLab has a focus on parts marking, trophies, awards, etc., whereas ProfileLab provides production support for CNC machining. In particular, there is ProfileLab functionality that will automatically clean up the dxf file and apply tool paths. There is additional mapping support if you have organized your design with dxf batch files (this would be more for AutoCAD support). However, it is this general functionality that I suspect would streamline your production workflow.

neill, we use flexisign to convert our AI files to HPGL (mod-edit)

We save ai files and export using this plug in……

using .dxf which we then cut on an old pacer.
