    Hi All

I am looking to cut thicker materials (0.5mm polypropylene film)

Is there a plotter which is designed to cut this thickness of material ?

You’re not wrong there, Shaney. I had use of an 8 foot Zund flatbed at my last job. You could cut 3mm foamex on it! Better start saving your pennies though!

Whilst the ideal solution, They look like a fairly major investment 🙁

Is there anything in the regular plotter format which could do this ?

I’m only dipping a toe at the moment with this material so I’ve no idea what the demand would be 🙁

you may be better to see if you can arrange a contract rate to have someone else cut it, then when you get a market settled, invest in your own.

I’m not sure, but I don’t thing a standard plotter would be good enough. Got some hardware bods here that may have a better idea if they see tis post. 😛

I’m not sure on the cutting properties of the reflective material knives, maybe try one of those?

Or call a few plastic companies around your area and ask if they would cut your materials for you on contract as said above! Our company bought an showroom model upright saw second hand from a dealer.

    What about …

Keencut Ltd – They sell various lengths in the Javelin large format guillotine cutters.

Keencut…. a good idea….. I’ve got the 2500mm blade system and it works well. I’d assumed, perhaps wrongly, that you wanted to cut die-cut shapes…

I have said this a few times before but it is worth repeating, make yourself a cup of tea, sit down, get comfy and ready for a long phone call and Phone Edward Mathias. They supply cutter blades and what this guy doesn’t know about blades, plotters and materials that can be cut isn’t worth knowing. If there is a plotter available that will cut this sort of material then he will be able to tell you.

Ash, believe me the guy can talk !!!! But I don’t know anyone who knows more about cutting different types of material. You will know all you need to know about cutting different types of material, the best blade to use, best way to cut ie: speed, cutting pressure required, quality setting etc etc.
It is well worth making a call and you may also save some money on your next set of blades. He is a genuinely helpful guy not just out to make a sale and NO I am not on any sort of commission and don’t own shares in the company !!!!

What worried me more was I know how to talk also :lol1:

I had a chat tonight and he certainly knows his stuff 😎

He’s offered to help and may offer some solutions to my task on the materials front and also with suitable blades also.
