  • what takes camper van stripes off vehicle?

    Hi all.
I have just purchased a camper van for use at race meetings and weekends away with the missus etc 😉 . It’s a Fiat Ducato high top (Holdsworth). The factory fitted stripes are looking very sorry for themselves, have faded a lot and gone dull, so I reckon a re stripe is in order to tart it up a bit. The prob is I can’t get the damn things off! They seem to printed on clear and have become one with the paintwork .
What do you guys (and girls) recommend I do to get them off the van without any damage? The bottom part is normal steel van panel, with the high top being plastic or GRP.

Don’t go there! Those things can be impossible to get off. We did a caravan last year that just had a couple of .2 inch stripes on it. The only way they were coming off was with a sander.

We just had to go over them in the end.

Here in the US i noticed a lot of camper/RV vehicles had the vinyl work underneath the clearcoats therefore we are usually forced to sand them out or go over the top of them.

Clean the existing stripes well to remove any wax or grease.
Lightly scuff them with a Scotchbrite pad.
Buy yourself some good fineline tape. Use it to follow the stripes and burnish well. The mask the fineline with some good 3M masking tape. Burnish that well too.
Then simply go over the stripes with 1-Shot lettering enamel in your chosen color and a 1" foam brush like you can get at a DIY store.
Let it set up for about 15 minutes and carefully pull off the tape.
It’s cheaper and FAR easier than trying to remove and replicate.
    Love…Jill
