Do a search for number plates, its quite a common and controversial topic, What is your usual form of income, and what sort of turnover do you expect from making what are in essence illegal products?
Welcome to the boards anyway, Alex, you will enjoy it here, lots of advice freely given.

    Hi Peter.
Thanks for the reply. Just to follow on…
We’ve been in the car audio trade for 5 years no and have seen business getting harder and takings getting lower and have been introduced to the signage work from my uncle who gave us a roland pnc camm1 to use for our own signage on the shop and company vehicles and have evolved from there into small jobs from van livery, some shop work just basic stuff with corel draw and sign go so im picking it up as i go along. Last year we go into making SHOW USE ONLY plates using the oki printer and have done a few car boot sales and car cruises to essentially promote our car audio business and have seen the plates making more money than the car audio side and now have reached the end of our shop lease and decided to book into shows and more events based on the car enthusiast style events. We are aware of the implications involved in selling these style of number plates and are taking steps to avoid any criminal activities from occurring from our sales.
I was just after some pointers on how to approach the trade in a more vinyl and show plate as you wait service.
Advice on van choice (being over six feet tall it has to have head room) power supplies inverter/ generator?
Just inverter to try to make a supplies of our new venture as tired of making no money!!
    Thanks again.
    Alex.

Alex some of these events charge a lot of money for a pitch so you would need to be capable of doing a lot more than just producing show plates. Talking of which the bottom may well fall out of that market if new proposals are introduced. They are talking about introducing legislation so that all show plates be clearly marked as show plates on the front of the plate, if this goes through then I would think a lot of people won’t bother with them as we all know people don’t really buy them for show use.

    Alex,
the way legislation is going, making show plates, will come to an end. some will get away with it for a time, but all I can suggest is go for a more permanent way to make an income, rather than basing your profit on what you think others may be earning, short term.
Remember most shows charge a fee for the stand, its a short season, and mainly weekends/bank hols etc.. unless you are already known, i cant see it as a viable route.

just my opinion others may think differently.

anyway all the best, you are in the right place for advice

    Hi guys.
Thanks for the advice and will do bit of home work on the subject and tread with caution. Also thanks for the attention drawn to the legislation on show plates and wasn’t aware of it. 😕
Its given me food of thought thanks again.

Any change of direction or new business venture should be researched before you go ahead, if I were you I would also be on the look out for another shop or business unit, you obviously already have a customer base for both audio and sign work you just need to work a bit at expanding both customer bases. As Peter said the work you had been looking to do is seasonal so you would want something else to try and fill these quiet times anyway.
