I had some files sent to me that were clipart from corel saved as .ai opened in illastrator. When opened in illastrator the vector image has lines running through it. Normaly i would cut and past into signlab and not get any lines but i dont have signlab now.

Any one know how to do this with out getting lines?

Assuming it isn’t the problem we’ve been discussing in other posts normally exporting with ‘simulate complex fills’ and outlines clicked off stops these lines.

    Hi

I downloaded some files once that had lines running through them that made them into separate pieces if you know what I’m saying, this obviously won’t work for cutting, so in my software there is a function called "union" and this takes out those lines and leaves only the correct outlines.

I know you asking how this helps you and it doesn’t exactly, but you might have a similar function that you can use in your software.

sorry if I am talking poo

I have found this quite common in colour filled graphics I want to use for engraving. Once the fills have been removed, I then have to remove extra lines where shapes have been layered. Looks good as a coloured graphic but it hides a multitude of lines beneath. Only thing to do is get in and start deleting nodes.

Believe me I have found some weird extra lines hidden in some simple Corel clip art e.g. the no smoking signs I am currently working on. Dont worry its not the export/import filters messing you about, just some lazy designer.

In mac with CorelDraw the best option is to SAVE as Illustrator instead of Export.

I don’t know in pc but you should try.

Also if you are opening with freehand, it must be illustrator 7 or below.
