  • how do i go about replacing printheads in rocky II please?

    Hi ,

I have a few questions regarding replacing printheads in Mutoh Rockhopper II as under-

Q1.After the installation of the new printhead and turning the printer on in the self diagnostic menu–There are two options for entering the QR code /head ID,One is using QR code reader??(no idea what this is???)and the second is through operation panel, which one is recommended?if it has to be done using second option, further explaination of the method is needed?

Q2.Can one change all the printheads in one go or it has to be done one by one?since once the ID of a printhead is entered correctly the printer goes in the ink replenish mode.

Q3.Do I need to update the head voltage too for the respective head which has been changed & whose ID has been updated recently? If yes then how to do that?

and lastly a question which is not related with the printheads-

Q4.Is it possible to refresh/initialise the mainboard to original OEM settings as when it is shipped out new i.e when the printer starts for the first time with language select options?

    Thanks

Q1: I would go through the panel.
Q3: Go to the parameter menu / parameter update and enter the head ID for the head You changed. This will make the corrections for the driving voltage of the head.
There is also head voltage compensations value that You can change, but that is only done when having problems with 360×360 dpi, though I can’t imagine why somebody would use that resolution.
Q2: You can change as many heads as You want. Just keep in mind that when filling ink 1 pump means 2 heads. So You will loose a lot of ink if You change one after the other, doing every time the fill ink.
You can override the filling and do the filling manually with a syringe (that’s how I do it. And if I am not mistaken You have to flush the heads first with cleaning (as I don’t know if You go with the original ink and there might some rests from it in the head, also I don’t know if the heads are Mutoh heads or not)

Anyway I would recommend that You get some qualified technician to do the head change.

    Thanks for your advice Radu!

I perform the inkfill with two syringes at a time, what I usually do is detach the capping tubes from the pumps and suck the ink through for the respective twin heads with common ink pipes. This eliminates the problem of air getting trapped inside the pipes on one head if the other is being changed.

I presume you have one Rocky II at your disposal currently and If you are handling this printer yourself technically..I hope I may ask some further questions from you as the need may arise?

    Best regards

    Usman

No problem Usman. Actually I have a Spitfire, but it’s not so different.
