    Hi there. Can anybody help?

I’m having a real problem with the cutter I’ve bought from Signwizard. I did call their support line but the man was a little abrupt and it rather un-nerved me ! As a complete newbie the whole thing is pretty daunting so I’m a bit reluctant to call back especially as I’m not Computer Confident !

Basically I’d installed the software with the disk that came with the cutter but was having a problem getting anything cut.

Using Windows XP the CD auto ran and I got the ‘ Your device is ready to work – or something along those lines!

SignWizard told me to go device manager and find which port the cutter was showing on and then to tell Signblazer the port but I wasn’t able to find it listed in Device Manager anywhere.

I tried to sort it out myself but I found that when I assigned 2 different ports to Signblazer it sent the artwork to be printed on either my regular printer or my Dymo Printer ! Even though neither were connected at the time.

To cut a long story short I ended up uninstalling the driver to try reinstalling but I can’t find the Driver Program on the Disk. The Plug and Play detector isn’t finding the Cutter now. Can you please help – I’m really getting in a real fix. Is there anywhere I can download the driver for XP or can anyone tell me the file I should be looking for on the disk.

By the way, when the cutter driver has been installed ok, should the cutter appear anywhere, my Dymo and OKI Printers appear under printers in Control Panel and I wondered if I should see my CT630 there too?

Thanks for any assistance you can offer

    Hi welcome to the boards.
I cant help with your problem as you have not given the make or model of your plotter?

This sort of question comes up quite often, but if you are not computer confident, then you may be in for a long learning curve, even if you manage to get the plotter working….

Its like buying a car and expecting the seller to teach you to drive it.

What experience do you have with signs or vinyl cutting? it may help if you tell us a bit more about yourself, and your reasons for buying the machine, and what you intend to use it for?

CT630 is the plotter brand and model. I had the same kind of problem with a refine it was a wast of time buying it. Im in need of a plotter and its very tempting to buy a creation plotter as i can get a 1200 wide one very cheap so would be handy to cut the width but i dont want to be left with another lemon!

Hi Peter and thanks for your reply but Luke’s got me worried now ! LOL

I thought I’d mentioned the Make and Model but re-read my post and realised I hadn’t ! duh ! It is a Creation CT630.

I have a Craft Shop and online Shop/Website which I’ve built myself using Actinic. I’d come across the RoboCraft Cutter via the craft industry and liked the idea of producing custom die cut craft items, and die cutting my own instore signs and displays. As we were due to move into new premises requiring a large vinyl cut sign I thought I could be my own first customer! My husband has been made redundant and we had thought that perhaps he’d be able to develop vinyl cutting business and decided to go for the CT630.

The CD that came with the cutter is a recordable one and doesn’t say anything about Creation or the Cutter Model and I can’t find a ‘set up’ file on the disk to install the cutter. I’m at a loss now !

I did get it going and it started cutting what appeared to be a nice clean cut but as the knife turned to cut back it started dragging and snarling up the vinyl, I couldn’t get it to stop cutting, panicked and flicked the on/off switch.

Sounds like you did the correct thing to switch the unit off because you’re only wasting material at that point. Switching the unit off also clears its data buffer (the plot commands being received from the software), and then you just need to cancel the job from the software to make sure it isn’t still sending data to the cutter.

Review the operator’s manual with respect to adjusting the correct knife height, as well as placement within the knife holder. Something you can consider is reducing the plotter speed, until such time that you become more comfortable with sending jobs.

    Cheers,

    Rod

Make another call. I’ll bet you just caught someone (perhaps a novice) having a bad day. It happens.

In the meantime, start looking around for any training videos that can help give you ideas, and look at previous forum postings about design tips and techniques.

    hi guy’s

    Here in australia the creation P-cut is quite a popular model, which we run with signblazer software,as with king cut machine which does have a few glitches {tech is actualy at our shop today to sort it}

tell me what version signblazer you have, and i’ll check our system config, there is also some problem with cutter config, ie if you pen plot say a 300×300 the actual plot may end up say 300×305 or similar, its only in the new version software a calibration to fix this, earlier versions dont,
you can still use this but DONT rotate your job on the cutter output, especilly if you have drop shaddows or the like.

as with other noticed posts using P-cut and the similar with big brand software tend to NOT work, sign blazer seems to be the only one that does, we tried flexi sign, sign lab to no avail!!!!!

We have been using the p-cut610 for 2years now approx 1400meters of vinyl run through it, still a great unit..

i’ll try to help where and when I have a free moment,, cheers 😀 😀

    mod-edit please read board rules

    Hi.
I’m only new to the site myself, but have solved some of the problems you are having. First you need to check the com port setting. Device manager is in control panel, System, Hardware. Within device manager it will show Ports Com & LPT. The Help desk at Sign Wizard explained to me that the Pcut 630 needs be on com port 1 or 2. The instruction manual is perhaps a bit vague in the way it is explained. What you need to do is re-name com port 1 as another number not in use. Then when you have re-installed the driver (Downlaodable from Sign Wizard) the cutter will show up as a USB Serial port com no. Re number this Usb Serial port to com 1. The cutter does not appear as a device on the PC its only the port that is shown.

Then the software should be able to be re-configured to the port (Now Com 1).
You may have noticed from other posts on the forum that the baud rate on the Pcut some times resets itself on the cutter. Make sure both the cutter and the software are set to 9600.
I think with a bit of tweaking on the settings the cutter can be quite productive, just adjust the cutting depth using the test square set up so as to avoid waste.
Hope this is of some help.

    John.
