purple foamex
Posted by Rich Whitehead on 12 January 2007 at 21:25Hi I would like to know if anybody knows where I can purchase any purple
solid foamex or something similar about 16ftx4ftx3mm, I have had limited success only to find out that I have to purchase a ton or more as its not a standard colourLynn Normington replied 18 years, 11 months ago 7 Members · 12 Replies -

i wasnt aware there was a purple foamex…
im guessing your buying in 8×4 sheets? if i had to use foamex of any colour for any real length of time ide flood coat it in vinyl.what size is your sign or what purpose do you need it for?
is it indoor or outdoor use? -

why can’t you just flood coat standard white stock, is this going outside as i wouldn’t recommend 3mmKev

I’ve printed purple ink on white foamex many times in the past but this a long process as i have to print these in two halves and using alot of ink for a decent coverage on 8×2 boards and this could amount to 2 to 10 boards

but could you not consider vinyl… has a better finish, UV stable… fitting is fast/easy on foamex.
what is it for?

its for site boards. I’ve been toying with the idea for long time and the vinyl is quite cheap its just the application that scares me as i can forsee problems such as bubbles and the vinyl peeling off as these are for outside use

3mm site boards…hmmm, maybe not a good idea.
Spend £9 more a sheet & get 5mm – far superior to work with.
Flood coating this size / material is pretty easy – wet or dry.
If you are using any vinyl except ‘exhibition grade / temporary’ then it won’t peel. Get a cheap 3-5 year vinyl if cost is a major concern.
Honestly – flood coating white PVC is probably cheaper than buying coloured stuff anyway (never seen purple for sale anywhere) – and it lasts longer.

i would flood coat too rich (cost & speed)….by the time youve taped up a screen to print, you could have one sign coated…and you wont get bubbles on foamex 😀

we have flood coated lots of big sheets I have never seen vinyl peel off unless badly applied, it is made for out door use, it is easy to apply (although Rob won’t like this) if you aren’t confident apply wet, I would sooner trust vinyl than fomex in weather conditions ie: sun or very cold

I would have to agree. We had a contract for a number of stores in our region (it was part of a franchise) we covered sheets and sheets of 5mm foamex in primrose yellow vinyl as it was a perfect match. It is easier to cover the foamex if it is the matt finish.
The vinyl will hold its colour for a lot longer than the foamex too. -
thanks everybody i actually found the board god damn too expensive gonna go with vinyl option nothing ventured nothing gained
cheers
