  • Spot colour as full colour.

    Hi everyone.

First time posting on this forum and everyone seems to be extremely helpful, so where possible I will contribute, but……

We’ve just bought a new sign making set up. Been in business for over 45 years and eventually decided to upgrade our software and equipment. We were using the Edge (original – the sales team said it was only the second in the north east) and composer. After humming and haaaghing we went for the mimaki Jv3 and sign lab (4 X designers and 2 x print cut full versions) and other stuff.

So my problem, we do work for a removal company which has a 2 colour logo. All of the logo is printed in spot halftones (imagine a colored halo glow and a black beveled letter). Because graphix advantage software wasn’t amazing I printed the job twice with 2 separate image files in the same place.
All this isn’t a major problem except costing and lots of joins over a 1200mm high letter.

Anyway now we have the Jv3 we would like to print it on there, but are having colour matching problems. ie. black bevelled lettering is coming our black / red print instead of just black ink.

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks
    AL

    Hi AL,

Welcome to the uksignboards forums. Be sure to post a general hello to people. People appreciate getting familiar with your background, so that they can understand the sort of work that you’re asking questions about.

Concerning your issue, first thing you want to do is check the print mode (profile). To do this in SignLab, go File menu >> Print and Cut Setup, and on the Printer tab confirm that the Print Mode corresponds to the loaded media and ink.

In addition, something occurs to me that might be peculiar to your previous setup.

    1. For the black colour in your design, locate that colour in the SignLab Shop Palette.
    2. Double-click the colour to open the Edit Colour dialog.
    3. Inspect the RGB / CMYK value (whatever you’re comfortable with) to confirm that it is set per the black you are expecting.

    Any joy?
