    Hi folks,
After a little bit of advise. I recently did the rear doors with a class 1 honeycomb kit which we purchased from a leading supplier. It has only been on the vehicle 3 months and the edges of the yellow have taken in dirt. Is this a common fault? I was led to believe they were pre welded to stop this! I have another 10 to do but want to know how to stop it happening on the rest of them.

    Cheers

which make of class 1 is it?

have you tried sealing it yourself with some clear nail varnish?

Ian to be honest with you I have never fitted one of these kits, I have never had a customer who was prepared to pay that sort of money but they should be fully edge sealed to prevent this sort of thing. You could try sealing it yourself but what damage has already been done? I would be straight on to the supplier about it and asking for the damaged sections to be replaced.

    Ian,

If it really was a leading supplier then I’m surprised that you are having problems. If the edges should have been sealed then they should have done it. I would take it up with them.

    How’s your printer? 😀

i use wm smith for 3M diamond grade kits.
they are welded around all the edges of the kits.
i wouldnt expect them to leak, but if they did, i would imagine the supplier to replace them. take some digital pictures and send them to them. see what they say…
as i said, i think they would replace without bother but you still have to get the old stuff "off" 😕 lots of adhesive and tar’n’glue remover needed. 😕

    Hi folks,

Thanks for the comments.. I have emailed pics to the kit supplier, but as yet no response!!!
    I will keep you informed.

Up and running again John :lol1: :lol1: Engineer called on his way back from another job … Just a massive backlog now!

I remember when I took the plunge to buy a printer and wondered wher I would get the work for it… Having been without it for a couple of weeks I now wonder how I would cope without it!

Thanks again for the comments folks

I get confused about grade 1 and so on. If you are referring to Diamond Grade it has an open honeycomb structure that needs to be sealed. You either get it pre-sealed in roll form or you can seal it with normal clear silicone or if you are flush with funds buy the 3M kit.

An alternative that has almost identical reflectivity values is relfexite. (Customer service number 01865 396 960). It can be purchased a little more cheaply but its major advantage is that you can die cut it without having to consider any sealing as its structure is closed.

    regards,
    Keir
