When even the news publicise john prescotts new sign at £500 -£600 was a waste of money then as to compare they proceed to go to a cheap and nasty ‘copy’ shop to get an A4 laser printed piece of paper for £3.00 which was called ‘a sign’ small wonder customers think signs are just cheap items which should not incur a realistic price for design, components, manufacture, cheap copy shops do not make signs, we never even saw the new sign, ITV you should be ashamed!

Customers already think they should have signage on the cheap as their god given right, buffoons like these do absolutely nothing for our professional business. The joke is on you as you paid £3.00 for a piece of paper, not a sign

What kind of sign was it?
I would use this as an opportunity to contact the media and educate them as to just what a sign is!

I was recently asked to re-letter a piece of forrex in a sign frame.

I explained that the best option was to provide a new plastic sign panel and use the existing frame.

The cheapskates said their budget was too tight and could I provide a price to re-letter the existing sign board.

I offered a price higher than providing a new sign panel explaining that the extra time involved in re-lettering an existing board was less cost effective than simply providing a new panel.

They think they are paying for materials – vinyl and plastic – I am constantly having to explain that what they are paying for is not the material that the sign is made from – but for my time.

Some people just don’t get it!!

I think it was Oscar Wilde that said "He knows the price of everything and the value of nothing" 🙄

Hi Derek, have you got a link to the news item or a photo please?

Just to help justify the price of Mr. Prescot’s sign, assuming that the sign was installed at his office in Westminster, the installer would have had to pay £8 congestion charge to drive into Central London and £4 per hour to park in the Westminster area, assuming he/she can find a parking spot. 😮

Here’s a link to a few reports. Can’t see any pictures. I think the uproar is about not needing a sign at all rather than being overcharged for a sign. The way I read it doesn’t shed bad light on the signmaking industry, rather the vanity of the "deputy prime minister". However if some of the reports are to be believed then £645 for a sign on a door does seem a bit steep. After all what sort of sign on an office door could need to be charged at that rate? Even in Westminster.

With £726 spent on new bizcards, I’d say that sign was a real bargain!
(I guess the furor is because he will be going out office soon?)

To be fair, the sign Co. probably only charged £150.00 for it, but by the time it reached Prescott, various ‘marketing manager’ types & yes men would have put their mark-up on it.
