What would you do??

I have recently bought a Versacamm sp540 over a 5 year deal which comes with a 1 year warranty. I have now been offered a breakdown and accidental damage policy for a little over £28 per month which covers everything from what I can see. Now for those of you out there with roland machine or even any printer. Is it worth me taking them up with this policy or should I have little problems with this machine??

Oh for a crystal ball lol

Any advice or comments appreciated.

I assume that’s the price for the first year only? What about the second, third etc?

I was recently offered extended warranty for my plotter which was almost as much as you are being asked for, and it’s only worth about 3 grand new. So yours seems quite reasonable, in comparison.

Not that I own one – but is the printhead concidered a ‘consumable’ since there’s always seems to be a get-out clause with these extended warranties.

The guy who is trying to sell the policy to me says it covers everything … i think i`m gonna sk to see a copy of the terms and conditions …. i have been caught out by similar waranties before. An i`ll give Grafityp a call as that was where I bought it.

But no it is £28 per month over 5 years.

Is it from roland, A reseller or an independent engineer?

To be honest it sounds too good to be true. Ongoing cover for the Cadet is about £100 a month – but then the inks are more aggressive so there are more chances of faults developing on the Cadet than the Versacamm.

If the contract is with Roland I would say go for it. If it’s a third party I would look into it a bit more to check the cover you will be getting.

The policy is through Norwich union. I have asked to see a copy of the terms and conditionswhich i`m meant to be getting tomorrow.

i`ll let you know how i get on.

my experience of these policies is that most things can be classed as "wear and tear" rather than "Breakdown" and therefore excluded. Please check that out very carefully.

I think it’s better to go with a supplier or manufacturer’s warranty contract. Insurance companies cover so many different products that they find it difficult to be precise in their wording.

I`ve decided to give it a wide berth due to this wear and tear factor. All I would be doing is doubling up on insurance i already have with the building and contents.
