    Hi,

I’m quite new to all this so i need some help.

I’ve got an old roland camm pnc-1000 and i’m running it with flexi from ibm thinkpad laptop.

I managed to get it working using a parallel cable from the laptop to the cutter, but now and then (too often) i get the message " too many parameters or Wrong Parameter" and the cutter goes spazzy and cuts up half my media.

Do i need to swap to a serial connection?

Which port do i use? *See Pic

The port on the left with the funny symbol is 9 pin and the one on the right(serial?) has 15 pins.

Once i have a new cable,
What do i need to change in the settings on my PC / software??

    Please Help!!! (hot)

    hi
your 15 3 row pins should be a vga output the 9 pin 2 row is a serial in – out.

if useing lpt1 then there is a option in the computers bios to change the type of paralell output sorry cant remember the exact one you want for this older cutter as this sounds like a buffer problem.

Does Flexi allow you to "spool" your output to the plotter? If so, try it. This may solve the problem using your existing cable and connections

If you run flexisigns production manager utility and enter "setup" tab "setup properties" – tab "Communication" you can set a buffer for your cutting output from 128 to 2048 bytes. I would try setting the buffer to as high a setting as possible (i.e. 2048)

I’ve had this problem too….I’ll try changing the buffer later.

Another thing I get sometimes is it cuts a load of letters and number….usually seem to start A4……..

And then occasionally, the cutter just stops mid job then a few seconds later, lifts the blade and won’t go any more. I have to cancel the stuck job in production manager then throw out the vinyl, and start again.

    Any ideas on these anyone?

Does anyone know if a test cut on the pnc1000 can be done and if so how do you do it (I have no user manual)

If it’s anything like my PNC-1210, I think there’s an application you can download from Roland DG to test it. If I remember correctly, there’s an option in the menu on the cutter itself. I think it cuts a cross or something similar.

I’ll have a look tomorrow if you don’t find it!

    Regards
    Adam

Testplots: hold the uparrow pressed, then switch the plotter on.
