    Hi

I have downloaded a sample vehicle outline from impact.
If i do a design on one of these vehicles does it automatically cut it the right size for the vehicle design?

    Cheers Lee

The Impact outlines are pretty good. I never check the measurements, just don’t go too close to panel edges. Also, don’t trust the panel shapes exactly, for example, don’t make a magnetic panel to the shape from the outline – they’re not THAT accurate. For general lettering etc they’re just fine.

Some of the badge positions are wrong, though.

i think you will find you will need to up the size of impact outlines to 2000% to get the actual size, as a rule of thumb a std number plate is 520mm so i always measure that on the outlines to get it right.
Have you now got some vinyl gfx software lee ie: signlab/flexi/vmp or you using photo shop etc.

is that not only on the older impact disks alan? i could be wrong mate but i thought the scaling up of outlines was either only for certain file types or older disks. i only use the cdl files for signlab and when you open them they are already to scale.

On the disk they are supplied actual size & 1-20 scale.

If you have downloaded the samples they are 1-20 so you will need to resize them. Some programs will not be able to import the vehicles full size, that is why the samples are scaled down.

What software are you using Lee?

On the new 2007 library i got from impact last week i just had a quick look at a few vans and i brought them up to 2000% in flexi and that was the actual size, i carnt remember what file type i imported the outline as so there may be a full size file in there but i havent had time to have a good look at the disc/files yet. Btw thx for the quick delivery from impact 😛

I’m only on 2003 at the mo but it has Full size and to scale.

Regarding sizes, they are pretty accurate and I would only normally check if I’m going right to an edge with text etc

THe only thing I find tricky sometimes I distinguishing between panel gaps, recesses, bulges etc

    Hi Alan,

How much did you pay for the new version 21 outline disk, and how much was delivery.

I just phoned Impact twice for a price and they havent answered the phone once. I hate that. All I want to do is place an order

Kenny is right with the price although you can get substantial discount if you are full gold member of the ukboards, so its well worth thinking about upgrading your membership. 😉

I did my first van recently using impact with illustrator and was wondering about the scaling problem so I phoned impact.

The files they supply for illustrator need to be increased by 2000% as has already been mentioned. There in a folder called (AI 1-20).

For corelDRAW6+ there are files at the correct size on the disk in the folder (EPS).
For coralDRAW pre 6.0 you have to use the same 5% scaled down drawings as with illustrator.

I just copied all the vehicle outlines and pasted them into a new file, scaled them up by 2000% and cut.

there is probably a better way but u live and learn.
