compresses files
Posted by David Arch on 19 November 2006 at 23:42I’ve been sent a *.z file, does anyone know what software I need to decompress it? winzip, pkunzip and zip7 wont do it.
I know its a bit of an odd question but don’t know where to go.
Cheers

Virus scan it first, if nothing shows up try this. Make a copy of it then rename the extension to .zip, sometimes the remainder of the extension gets chopped off. This happens in e-mail sometimes when using the free accounts e.g. hotmail, yahoo etc. Hope this works for ya.

Hi there, as posted .Z files are just like ZIP files but from UNIX systems.
I use WinRAR which handles lots of different file formats (ZIP, RAR, ISO etc) and should read your .Z file.
You can download WinRAR from http://www.rarlab.com/rar/wrar361.exe
