  • how do i cut a sun visor properly?

Posted by Phil Price on 14 November 2006 at 10:01

    Hi guys and gals,
Just a very quick question with regards producing a car sun visor for one of my customers.
The sun visor will be a 2 piece graphic, blank strip trimmed to fit with logo to be applied afterwards.
The question I have is should I cut the initial strip with a slight curve or just cut a straight forward rectangle?
    Many thanks,
    Phil

Make it smile mate and it should fit.

Unless you know the curve…and can guarantee they’ll put the middle of it in the centre of the screen don’t bother.

99% of sunstrips are just supplied straight. They’ll probably be having a hard enough time as it is!

I would just cutout an over sized rectangle fit to screen then trim to fit (no the lower edge) then apply the logo.

Straight edge. Even though the top of the glass is curved, the windscreen also bows out. After applying a straight strip it will have a curved ‘appearance’ anyway. See mine below.

If the car is to be used on the road you may also need to advise them that the strip cannot be swept by the wipers by more than 1" as it will be an MOT fail as it is classed as obscuring the drivers view. This can be overcome by installing smaller wipers 😛
