hi. sorry if this has been posted before?
im a newbie here, from down indonesia.

    check out this link first

so apple singapore is using roland sp300v for making this ipod skin. and it looks like they’re using sticker media + laminate.

my question is, have anyone in this room tried this before? especially with the same roland. i have roland sp540v. and for stickers i’m using orafol/oraljet. anyone know what material are they using?

i’ve seen their skins (ipod..hahah), they do have this high quality, and i doubt that a roland 540v could produce something that is high as that.

    you reckon?

i recon for one offs and the like then yeh it is probably possible. ipods are much smaller obviously but i do know varsacamms and the like are widely used to create skins for x-box, playstation and even computer box skins…

My understanding is that the local distributor here, recommend Oraljet for doing the skin.

As Rob has indicated, it is pretty common for the machine to be used to produce graphic skins for different product.

    regards.

hohoo! great. then i must be on the right track, i just downloaded some profiles for orajet too, and waiting for the result.
as for the laminate media, i will use those for the indoor prints.

i’m tweaking my roland, to give the optimal result for this skin. any thoughts on that? about the resolution i should use..

    thanks bro(s)…
    holla to my ‘neighbour’, singapore…

just thinking out loud here but i would try leaving the prints as long as possible before laminating. obviously the norm is a minimum of 24hrs but ide leave a couple of days i think… these things are so small and ide imagine curling will happen where the vinyl wraps around the edges as it has very little to grip onto. so any solvent trapped is just going to make things worse. on that… i wonder how long the edges of the vinyl will last before dog-earing… x-box and PlayStation’s are one thing but these ipods are stuck in your pocket and handled allot. i recon the edges of the vinyl catching and beginning to peel is on the cards.

    true..ok i’ll leave them for a day or more…or should i say..monday..hahaa.
yes i thought about the possibility of being scratched too. that’s why i’m going to laminate it. i think it would, at least, protect the solvent from being scratched off.

    well…no pain..no gain..ooh..too much…
    better try than just think..

    thanks
