    Good morning to you all,

What media do you find best for rollup displays, which can be printed using UV inks and the laminated…? Much appreciate your advice 😀

i searched for a bit for roll display media… tried kentmere, hexus etc but wasn’t impressed by any. none had a high gloss finish and seemed to suck in the ink, leaving a Matt washed out finish on the colours.

about 6 months back i tried a new product from europoint display. it did everything i wanted it too… it has a high gloss finish and print results are excellent.

I’m using the uniform grenadier solvent printer.

I’ve never found the need to laminate roll-ups.

I use Metamark MD-RU and am very happy with the results which I do not laminate.

I also use the media from Europoint [Kernow coatings] after trying the others suggested for Solvent printers…..different league in my opinion [for SP] ….

I also love their digital canvas for solvent ink….it’s even better than the Oce Satin..

We always laminate roll-up’s, did another 14 this morning. For the sake of £4 of laminate and an extra 5 minutes it’s just not worth the hastle!

We use the Europoint one (Kernow), and recently found that Xerox are also selling the Kernow one, and are now buying from them.

i dont laminate because i have never had anyone complain that they have an abrasion problem with our roll-ups. i guess if they did, i would.
i agree it is not allot of money at all… but it would mean just one more width of laminate that i need to hold in stock. then there is also the possibilities of dust being trapped, creases forming etc whilst laminating them.
like i said, i havent laminated them before but i really do like the finish on the gloss media. andrew did two yesterday and the grey text on the roll-up almost looked silver because of the sheen through the ink from the media.

We have had an unlaminted sample out with one of the Ultima reps that we did for him. Keep forgetting to ask him how it’s looking. That particular unit will get a lot of abuse, so will try to remember to ask him next time he’s in!

The trouble with unlaminated is that they scratch so easily, all you need is a little bit of grit and the jobs a write-off!

We were laminating one this morning, and a bit of grit got under the bar, put a nice line all the way down the print as the laminate was going on it!

as i said, haven’t had any issues. but i would guess these types of media scratch easy because its a polyester film as opposed to vinyl so isn’t porous, if that’s best way to describe it? 😕 because of the shiny surface the ink really is just sitting on the surface and has no bite.

when you load the cassette it will be clean… when its unwound its going into the vertical position and clipped to pole so any dust shouldn’t stay on surface. fall if anything… same goes when wound down.
I’m not for a minute saying it cant or doesn’t happen i just think it maybe a bit extreme.
if this was a sample for someone unwinding and rewinding on a daily basis then yeah ide laminate. i would do it more so for it "continually" hitting the face off of the cassette as it drops down.

Ok, I agree with dust/grit on the front falling down into the cassette, however, should (and I say should) a bit of grit get onto the back and fall down, it will mark the face when it is retracted as the face will come into contact with the back!

Like I said earlier, in my opinion, for the sake of £4 of laminate it’s not worth the hastle!

Thanks to all of you for your info I will most definitely try this Europoint media.

Am I correct in assuming that you all print with solvent or Ecosolvent inks on this media…?

What type of laminate do you use Chris..type and thickness please ?

    Many thx,
    Tony
