Hugh as far as I remember when you open corel, you have a choice to open last edited, that should open the file that crashed.

Hi Hugh, I’ve gotten that a few times before, but unlike you I had spent quite some time on the bloody thing before it crashed, and same as you, I had no joy recovering the file! Searched the whole hard drive for .cdr files, checked the recent folder…nothing! Would love to find out if someone has the answer to this one…

If you know the file name then surely you can use the windows search feature to locate the file?
Another thought is to search for .BAK files rather than CDR files?
-
Hadn’t got them saved 👿 never tried .bak why that out of intrest and stupidity!?
-
Corel automaticaly creates backup files with the file extension .bak while your working.
-
I think signlab does the same, but you have to set it up to do autosaves,
But if you do a search for TEMP files you will quite often find lost stuff,

When Corel raises a CARM alert you are guided through a series of steps, if the file is recoverable one will be save and close this will produce a Cor# file, this generally can be opened for you to resave. I can’t remember which folder it goes to right now but its not the working folder. You can’t beat Control S regularly as you work and this applies to any application. Some users have reported CARM as being a little fussy and a school of thought turns it off believing it to be more trouble than its worth. That said it has saved my bacon before now.

Sorry Darren I have misled you. The automatic backup files in Corel are called "AUTOBACKUP_OF_(Followed by filename)"
If you do a search on your hard drive for AUTOBACKUP_OF_ (or even just Autobackup) you will find them.

nice! just pulled up those missing files! like being reminded of a girl that broke your heart!! 😀 the "autobackup_of" worked but not the "cor#" cheers lads, obvious enough I suppose!

go "start" button and then "Run"
Type in
%temp%
this will open up temp folder
look for anything with COR on the beginnnig, normally called Cor1.cdr
Double click it and re-save if possible
doesn’t always work.
