  • are UV hybrid printers a good investment?

    Hello Signboarders,
we are very keen to purchase a UV hybrid printer.
one that can print roll to roll and Flat rigid sheets.

The last one we saw was a chinese made TECKWIN
look very good had white ink also but after much investigation
does not print on Rigid sheets like colorbond or Dibond ( composite Sheet)

have since heard and seen samples of a Gerber Solara. For the price
looks impressive. not a high resolution machine but looks ok
has CMYK, Voilet and Green inks.

Just wondering if anybody has a UV machine or can tell me of any they
are worthy of looking at Price wise in Australia the TECKWIN was 125K and the GERBER was 88K. Expensive but not as much as others of 300+K

thanks for any input / response

    tim

Tim, call Luke at AGS in Brisbane.

Just between you and me… promise not to tell… but they are bringing in there own chinese UV stuff. Not sure when they arrive but I know deals have been signed in China… I have already told them I’m interested in one when it arrives. They have been negotiating for yonks, and they assure me they are state of the art…..

Had lunch with the new owner of AGS the other day, he is rather excited about what is coming too….. He has invested some pretty big bucks to improve the companies structure I’m told, ready for the release…

Guess nothing from AGS at the sign show?…. He is building up his sales staff to go national, then he’ll release them to the oz market I’d suggest.

We have just bought a NUR Tempo, fab machine but its expensive for a sign maker at over 200k. We had dabbled before in the economy models from Korea (similar to Techwin) although we had problems although I’m sure they have improved since we got it (2 years back). The problem for us was mainly getting support but the companies involved are now forging good links with agents over here so this should be much improved.

A couple of leads worth checking out if your interested are Backbone digital in Nottingham (Andy Smith) or Robert Horne who sell a hybrid machine called the Anapurna. Just make sure you are clear on what you want it to do because they will tell you it can do anything, test block colour printing across the range. Test edge to edge printing and longer runs on the roll fed. Be clear on consumable costs and ongoing maintenance after the warrenty.

Sometimes you are better off getting a decent trade agreement with one of the main print suppliers, at the end of the day its their problem getting you what you want and believe me these machines can become a headache if you dont do your homework.. Good luck!

    Hi Tim

I saw a new machine recently on the Solaris1504 web site here in the UK recently. I have been looking at one of their other machines and the UV one is a bit big for my place.

    Good Luck

    Joanne
