Hi there everyone, how we all doing?…….Good I hope!

I dont know if anyone remebers me at all but i signed up to this board about a year ago and at that time my current boss did a runner on his place leaving me jobless and leaving me up the creak.

Any with the help of my mrs, friends and ppl off this board gave me inspiration to open my own place.

Im investing money i dont have basically from the bank into a mimaki jv3 130sp the 54" one.

I am a graphic designer and was one for the last place i worked, so I know the skills needed to vinyl applications and the basic ins and outs.

So I toke myself to the Sign UK Show and researched on what was out there and thats helped me decide this is what i wanted to do, rather than just sat infront of a computer all day and not really work with my hands.

    Sorry to drag on.

Now what im wanting to know is. Is the mimaki printer i am buying i know it good have seen one and its demo.

Now what i would like to know that is this a good thing to do.

We are going to be printing on to canvas mostly- fingers crossed.

offering photo enlargeing (copyright issues as noted)

    and many other products.

I have many contacts from the last place and there all willing to send me work as there no one trust worthy or willing to go that lil bit extra for them.

What i would like to know it who are the ppl i should speak to about media and application issues.

And also how to ppl make the banners that are welded round. with the eyelets.

Thanks for listening folks and I most say this place is full of really really nice ppl.

    All willing to help

    cheer everyone

    take care

    hi there and welcome…

its a big jump when getting into digital printing… big learning curve and plenty stressfull days kicking your machine. only to find out you were not doing something very simple.
mimaki is a good machine, though its not one i use or have used.
dave rowland and few others use them and i recon they are very reliable machines, so i dont think your choice is in any way wrong. my only gripe with the machine (because i looked at buying it too) was no combined contour cutting facilites.

i would maybe give grafityp a call regarding your media, i bought a big roll of canvas from them a while back. had lovely results.

    welding banner hems…
i have the leister banner welder, thats about your wack on the hot air banner welders… cost about £1600
there are plety alternatives though… chemical welding, d/sided high bonding tape etc again, i know grafityp offer a banner tape.

eyeleting? best route is self pericing eyeleting machines. youll pay anything from £40 for hand one upto about £250 for benchtop pull down type.
