LED Backlighting info…
Hi to everyone, I´m new in this forum, I´m from México 😀
Well, I need some advice for backlighting large signs with LEDs… I want to backlight with Super Flux or Luxeon LEDs, I know it´s more expensive than neon or T8 fluorescent lamps, but I trust in the advantages of the LEDs.
So, anyone have backlighted before a large sign, large about 3 x 2 Meters or more? using maybe LED modules, or strips?

I cant really answer that question.. we would use fluorescent tubing for anything like that for the brightness, but then again bulbs will fail eventually.

i know led’s are coming down in price by the day but i would still imagine that to cost a hell of allot using led’s to cover that kind of area and keep to the brightness you require.
sorry, i haven’t tried anything this size due to what i have said… like Dave ide probably go with fluorescent tubing…i guess if you have a customer willing to pay extra today, to save over time, then yeh why not… go for it!

Well thanks Dave and Robert, I´m looking right now with some kind of LED´s maybe they can give me the lighting flux that I need.
I will tell you later if it worked fine.
BTW, how much would cost to illuminate with "normal" fluorescent lamps that kind of signs, aprox..?

i am unsure of individual bulb costs that would be needed as i normally… "well these days"… just buy in my complete box with tubes installed, saves allot of bother and lets us get on with the artwork and installtion. complete illuminated sign boxes arent too expensive… makes good sense to buy in if you have a busy shop, or inexperienced in this feild of fabrication. if you are looking to go bigger than that ide advise you to consider moving to "flex-face" signage. basically means you have no hassles with joins in the sign face, regardless of size.
