advertising board: hand painted
Posted by A Misselbrook on 2 August 2006 at 16:37Hi!
This is a 90% finished sign!! I was just impatient to get a picture of it. The gold leaf has patterns in it that dont show too well in the picture because of the angle of light! Doh! I will post a pic of it totally finished!!
I wanted to get an old style feel for it! Thats my favourite kind of sign to paint!

very nice aj apart from the red at the bottom on the black that kind of bleeds, I expect the detail on the gold gets lost in a pic because of the light etc. hope it gets you lot’s of work. ๐

Nice work, AJ…
you make me sick!
(with jealousy)
Have to agree about the red on black, but that could easily be fixed by adding in orange or white highlights.
Real old-timey.

That’s what I’m talkin aboot!
Gorgeous work!!!!!!!!!!!! ๐ฎStevo

Thankyou! ๐ The red on black seems to work in some lights! I may try a different red, then if it looks wrong it can easily be painted over again. I was trying to use the colours that I think would of been used in the past. Im going to use the board when I go to craft fairs etc.
Im still trying to convince people to go for this kind of look in the old villages and pubs. People want signs yesterday!
I am getting nowhere with pubs though. They are replacing old signs with the (fibreglass?) types that go over the top. The pictorials are all printed pictures. Its a sad time I think. Im just hoping that it’ll swing back to handlettered because thats what I think the old village pubs should be.

Thanks for all the replies ๐
Nicola, the sign is all hand painted. I dont have a cutter at the minute. I only do handlettered stuff ๐
Bernardo, Its not easy to sell the idea of handlettered signs here either! potential customers dont give you enough time to do the job properly! They want signs the next day! It doesnt work like that though does it!!! ๐

hi, no i dont think it does. i often take too much time on a job. which doesnt raise the price either for me, but satisfying myself and the customer is always non plus ultra.
iยดm going to send a pic of something i did today and wouldnยดt mind having yours and others opinion on it, concerning time and cost efficiency…? if the pc works…
all the best aj,
bernardo
