how long does it have to cope with that heat? Is it constant or intermittant?

Hi, I have been asked to produce some work for a racing team and they want they’re calipers written.
Thanks

I don’t think you’ll find a vinyl product that will withstand the heat on a calliper. The temperatures involved are greater than a heat gun, and that’ll wrinkle the material in a very short time. Could you cut a mask and spray through the mask with a Sperex type exhaust paint?
-
You can get a label that will tell you the temp the calliper has reached.
and it will stay on a calliper.
don’t know what they are made of though.

we have race cars with powder coated calipers with advertising. I think they use a hi temp enamel paint tho. Someone told me they spray the powder coat over a stencil too, then bake it but not sure if that is true.
I certainly don’t know of any vinyl that can stand something so extreme. Sorry mate.
I’d write a letter to 3M in the States. If they know of anything, they’d tell you.

we have done laser engraved labels which were used on motorcycle exhausts. a 3M material which will withstand 200 degrees Celcius for 2 hours – i dont think you can get any better than that.
this is a silver or black material. -
There’s loads of eBay sellers reckoning they have high temp vinyl….maybe we should buy say a dozen…then we might be able to read the backing?
But that’d cost a little….
I’ve been asked about putting vinyl on a race can….

I’ve just had a quick look on ebay, not so sure about the temp, I’ve told my customer to order these directly from ebay at least he won’t be chasing me when they drop off. I recommended using a mask but he was adamant that he wanted stickers.
Never mindCheers

brake calipers dont get that hot, pads and discs do, callipers have to stay at a reasonable temparature, otherwise the brake fluid would boil, a good cast vinyl wil do the job,,
Peter -
Thanks Peter (again) never thought about the brake fluid, what is the boiling point of Dot 4?
-
Brilliant thanks Lynn, I’ll pop some on my car and see how long they last, much lower than I thought.
-
You say its for a racing car?, racing brake fluid will go to 320C
You will have to try it and see.
(and yes it sill boils!)
-
truth is, most peeps who want to stick vynil to their calipers (part time racers inc) never will get their calipers hot enough to melt it….
no dis to boy racers out there……..Peter

Hi, welcome to the boards, I didn’t I just pointed him towards ebay, he seems happy enough at the moment with them, I was worried about the quality and the heat issue, sorry I couldn’t be of anymore assistance.
Cheers
