Flame Polishing of Cast Acrylic
Just wondering (after another post metioned it), if anybody does their own, who they get to do it…or even a "what’s flame polishing?"
I normally do my own when it’s flat panels of finishing off a bent shape for a bit of added luxury. Looks great with a 10mm panels on stand-offs!
Any techniques, tips of horror stories welcome!
I used to use a ‘proper’ fame polishing unit the used MEK (Methyl Ethyl Ketone) as a gas source, but since left that company.
Now I used a low temp flame (to melt, not burn) from an partially aerated mini-torch. Gives a soft blue flame rather than the super hot, roaring blue cone.
It’s all in the prep anyway!! Wet & dry to get rid of saw marks, scrapped with stanley blade, wiped with meths & flamed.
