  • PC workstation you can stand at?

Posted by Rod Gray on 14 July 2006 at 08:39

    Hiyas,

i`m looking for a supplier of a PC workstation i can park next to our plotters so our operators can stand at them whilst working with the plotters etc.

As you can imagine, there is no end to the little things you can sit at but i`m looking for the ones you can stand at.

Any ideas where i might get them?

well we had one stand up shelf and one sit down computer station… recently knocked down the standup one as the operators didn’t use it enough. It’s when you get problems with a file you concentrate better when sat down.

Yeah thats true Dave but i`ve watched operators sit at their PC`s when the plotters are waiting to reloaded etc and it gets on my wick. I feel the less comfortable they are, the more likely they are to get their fingers out and get on with it. 😀

It mostly repeat work anyways and all the designing and redesigning is done on a different PC.

    Thanks Tim,

I actually looked on that site but never spotted that. It looks great but perhaps a little overelaborate for my needs. A simpler less security conscious version would be perfect…and and half the price 😀

    Cheers

Totally agree . there are no chairs in our factory. For the design studio we have high desks with stools. It does work because you are at a standing height. You dont have to keep getting up. Keep them working, sitting is cheating.

Not quite sure if it would effect H&S Dave. I`d be inclined to think that there are less H&S issues having employes stand rather than sit.

When sitting, you have to have the monitor height set rightly, you have to give them comfortable chairs with lumber support and you have to train them on posture.

Make them stand and eliminate all that cr*p 🙂

In our workshops we have employees standing all day working on commercial vehicles, similiarly i imagine production line workers have to stand most of the day etc.

I don`t see why a pc/plotter operater should be governed by any different kind of H&S law.

I could be totally wrong tho 😀

honestly, I prefer our operators to be as confortable as possible, I find they make less mistakes and take there time to do their jobs. Fairdos on standing up, but i got fed up with it and spending the next 10minutes stood up due to a problem with a file, I rushed it and made a mistake. Although a kitchen top is more then enough for stood up use.

As long as employees have got their places they can go and sit for breaks then thats great.

    Hi Brian,

I liken Ikea to Hell. I`d honestly prefer root canal treatment than go there. However, i`ll have a look at their website and hopefully see something there.

    Cheers
