These are the sort of stuff I do

The first job I have done wet as it was pouring rain on me at the time. I mostly do dry lots faster but a lot harder.

Your vector of football taz looks good when you see how low resolution the original picture is.
Did you autotrace or did you trace it by hand?

Traced by hand as auto trace features on software (WinPCSIGN) I have are rubbish.

    did you digitise both?
is there a taz on both side windows and one on rear?

Taz on both side windows and one on rear window
Side tazs are 11 wide and rear is 22" x 14".

Rear taz from another small image, both hand traced. The usual grey scale, print, scan and spend an age drawing by hand. Text added later.

Done in ScotchCal 50 aluminium as looks better than their silver and someone had a go with a penknife on one of the side windows.

I am interested in what other people would price the job as a whole and in parts.

    I charged €120 (£80) for the lot.

    £80 sounds about right mate… £30 setup, £40 graphics, £10 fitting….

What you charge if done in parts
    rear window price?
    both side windows?
    one Side window?

Trying to get an idea if I am too dear or too cheap in general.
I have more of these to do, rear windows mainly.

Do you have a standard rate you would charge or is it dependant on complexity of design.

Questions as usual are not just directed at Robert, the more that answer the better

The setup cost is a must for a one off like this. however, if you sold these all the time then obviously no setup for the customer.

    Graphics:
    Rear Window £20
    side windows: £10 each

however… my guess is you will compete with the local cowboy using the cheapest grade vinyl on the go, cutting tons of them and taking what he can get. If you plan cutting a bunch of each then fine, you may drop the cost to compete, but to what?

    Rear Window £15
    side windows: £5 each

any lower and its not really worth doing in my opinion…

fitting charge is only £10 and should be done in no time.
if you don’t charge fitting and get some bubbles, or a crease, guaranteed these wide boy racers will say oh I’m not paying for that… so you do it again or drop the price lower. yet again…

if you want to sell off the shelf, you are then faced with a stock of each graphic in different colours and sizes. so i would say its better to cut when asked.

at the end of the day you will sell for what you think is an ok profit, just dont under sell yourself… remember, you can be a busy fool…

Definitely charging a setup fee close to what you recommend. My worry is that I will be charging too much in the 1st place. Cow boys i don’t have to worry much about (save for myself and the cow worriers 😀 )

I use the scothcal 50 as its reasonable quality and I was quoted €1200 (£800), before vat for the 100 which i thought was a bit steep.

You always worry you charge too much and do a discount for the brothers girlfriend and then her mates come along and want the same, never again! busy fat fool indeed!! 🙁

I think you’re about right on the prices Michael,
but next time you need something like that just ask.
I could have sent you a taz and a football, 2 minutes welding, and hey presto!

You did a fine job on the vectorising though.

    Cheers
    Joe

    Hi Michael,
Doesn’t the rear screen heater elements burn the vinyl please?

I have no idea if they do burn it but the taz is on the outside so figuring not much heat gets to it.

I have another more complex design(still 1 colour) to do on another car and that one is being done on the inside with a tint on top. the whole rear window/door is coming off for that one.
That one might burn, the whole idea of vinyl burning has got me worried now. 🙁
